Looks a crackin dog Carl, so sorry to hear the news...hopefully he can get through it and enjoy the rest of his life i'm a big softy when it comes to Animals I must admit. fingers toes and everything else crossed for him!

Fingers crossed from across the pond.

Stumbled upon this thread and wanted to chime in.

We lost our beloved 11 year old rescue greyhound after five years in retirement this past June. He had just had his fave treat of frosty paws (doggie ice cream), and was all set to run in the back yard when he broke his right front leg on a quick turn.

Cancer of the bone and he was gone the next day.

Just read through this thread and must admit it's a pretty upsetting read. I know I'm an emotional wreck these days but dogs have a special place in my heart.

When I was a teenager my folks had a guide-dog 'puppy walker' dog, Topsy, and I adored her. She left us after 12 months and luckily I was too young to really feel the departure too much but alway had a great longing for a dog. Never actually got one though.

Tonight, I picked a mate up for a few beers, to be greeted by his Golden Retriever, so much instant love & affection (from the Dog!!!), just reminded me what a great companion dogs are.

Carlos, hope things go OK but, if not, try to remember the positives mate.

Carl I know the pain. We lost our beautiful ginger cat Oscar on Wednesday to a growth in his throat.14 year old rescue cat. He's sleeping peacefully in our garden now with other old cat friends. So sad but to anyone who loves animals we know that we have given them love, warmth, food and good times. Thinking of you and understanding exactly what you're feeling mate.

Hi guys,

Thankyou everyone for the lovely messages. Max was fine overnight. They said an operation to partially remove it has a major risk of not making it through
and even days/week after the op.
Cheamo is another option and apparently it has no side effects and it can make him feel alright and he could live a few more months.

But his days are numbered. I'm absolutely gutted. I always thought we would
see him grow to be an old dog. He is old in age but not in body. He is so spritely and happy. Some labs live to 15 it's just it's not fair. Millie
is not happy max isn't here. Looks a little depressed but she is a little happier today.

She deffo is missing him. We all are!

God, so sorry for you! I had a similar experience with the dog of my parents who was called Max as well... (I also called it my dog). Still miss him when entering my parents house...

Sorry to here about this Carl and everyone else who has recently lossed a loved family pet.

My parents in-law has just had to have their second dog put down due to cancer.

We currently have these 2 lovely 5 month old Labs. Duke and his sister Bessie.

Hmmm - mixed results there then Carl? Okay for now but days numbered. A hard one to deal with.

I think Labs are prone to all sorts of problems from dodgy hips to other issues. Ours is currently 4 so a fair bit of time left yet but still not ages - our little boy (2 years old) is SO attached to her so will be a nightmare when she expires.

Just wanted to share....the black one, Flint, was our 14 year old that had to be put down this year. He lived a long, great life.




And here's our new little guy, Levi. He was rescued by our local Humane Society, and we adopted him about 5 months ago. All our days are numbered, you just have to make the most of the precious time you have with these little guys

So cheamo will give him some more days, but it's just masking the problem, Brain opp is a big thing for the boy and may cure/but probably just prolong life more IF he makes it through...v.tough decision, All I can say is..do what's best for Max, not for the family. It's easy to keep him going longer but for who's sake? G.L.

What everyone else has said really.I've been in your situation and it's horrible.I really hope all will be well, but having to make the long term decision for the greater good tore my heart out.
My Vizsla is 11 and I don't like thinking about him deteriorating
