Dijon, France - Hotel Ideas

Driving down to the French Alps next Friday for a few days with the family. We are going to stop over in Dijon for one day/night and i just wondered if anyone could recommend a nice hotel/place to stay?? Many thanks. Steve.

I know a good campsite near Dijon, but no specific knowledge of hotels, but Relais & Chateaux are usually pretty good options....

Just booked the Sofitel La Cloche - looks lovely and will be a nice stopover - i usually stay in Sofitels when i travel Europe anyway so know they are usually of a high standard - but thanks for the advice.

If you eat in the hotel be wary of letting the sommelier choose the wine, they have a fantastic wine list with a massive selection of Crus et Grand Crus, but I have never seen so many bottles at such high prices, ordering a €100 bottle makes you feel like a real cheapskate!!

Both times I have been I have gone for the Nuits St George 1er Cru, either the 2001 or 2005, really, really smooth and creamy, just one of my faves that seem to be getting silly money over here which really pisses me off.

Hi Steevie,
Shame I didn't see your post early, I could have given you some other adresses.
"La cloche" is top of the range hotel eventhough it is not located right in the "old" Dijon. "Le chapeau rouge" or "Hotel Wilson" would have been my advice.
I can still suggest you nice restaurants like:
"Les oenophiles" is perfect for wine amateurs. In a medieval style it is located rue Sainte-Anne just a few streets from where you'll be staying.
"Stephane Derbord" a grand chef restaurant won't disapont you neither with his nouvelle cuisine located place Wilson.
Regarding wine, Pommard, Vosne Romanée, Gevrey Chambertin (red) Corton Charlemagne, Chassagne Montrachet, Auxey Duresses (white) let the wine waiter guide you, it all depends on what you'll be eating with.
