Paint nightmare

So, I have to show my story of woe.

First of all, I know my 330i is not the most expensive car in the world, but I like and am fairly meticulous in taking care of it.

I had gotten some road grim (salt, etc.) on my car and went to wash it off this weekend. Upon closer examination, it turns out that the road grim was actually white paint. Apparently I must have run over some white paint that had spilled with my passenger side wheels. It sprayed up on the passenger side, got kicked up on the rear of the car, and coated a good portion of the undercarriage.

After my initial almost-heart attack I got to work, and after about 8 hours of careful detailing it is all off of the car's paint and wheels, and almost all off of the wheel wells and undercarriage. I feel like an idiot for having it happen, but I never saw any paint on the road.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. (And of course, I'd welcome any tips for cleaning the undercarriage.)
