3 Insurance policies due around xmas. Can I stagger the renewals?

Just a quickie about insurance.

My missus insurance runs out in the middle of Dcember every year and now I have my motorbike insurance also due at the same time. Plus by car insurance on the BMW runs out in January.
Now xmas is already an expensive time of year, so I was wondering if there was a way to spread the renewal periods later into the year?

not sure you will be able to stagger the renewals unless you only take out a six month policy on one of them?

If I was you I would be looking at the multicar policies - I took the Admiral one out and saved £200 in the process by insuring both vehicles at once.

Good idea, but I've just done an online quote through Admiral and there doesn't seem to be any discount for insuring 2 cars with them. In fact my best quotes have been £358 for her car (Admiral quoted £437) and £460 for mine (Admiral quoted £599). I may sorn the BMW and use the missus car for a month to put my renewal into Febuary, or just leave the bike in the garage for a couple of months and pay it's £220 renewal cost later in the year.

You could set them up as 12 direct debit payments and then pay them off as and when you can afford?

Seems quite extreme to SORN the car for a month?

Would it be worth mothballing the bike this time of year?

Just renewed mine with Aviva. They were substantially cheaper than the others for me. Old insurer, Esure were £220 more expensive.

It's easy to do on line and test out the various options/inclusions/exclusions etc.

I'd consider that, except that I don't like paying any more than I have to and for the interest they charge I may as well put it on a credit card.
Sorning the car would be extreme as you say, my second thought is that I recently taxed the BMW for a year anyway and could just not drive it for a month and use the missus car.

Yeah maybe. The bike insurance runs out on December 17th and is really usefull for xmas shopping as there are no worries about parking in town or getting stuck in xmas traffic while out buyng presents I think the best thing here would be to leave it in the garage until Feb/March time and renew when the icy days have been & gone.

I'll give Aviva a go and any other recommnded sites, but GoCompare, Confused, MoneySupermarket & CompareTheMarket.com were all the same prices.

I would try Tesco for the mrs as my wife always gets it cheapest and then also give A-plan a call and mention the forum, they came up with great deal with Aviva which even going direct to Aviva with disocunt coupon I could not get

I chuckle to myself everytime I see your user name.

I'm with Aviva who were the most reasonable for standard of comprehensive cover and premium, and they don't increase the premium for speeding offences.

I'd let the bike insurance lapse for now tbh. I remember the pain of riding a motorbike in winter...........that point at which you become so cold that you warm up intiailly then start shivering for no reason. Yep too old now lol.

My missus hates the username as she already thinks I'm a bad boy, but it's been that since I first started using the internet over 10 years ago.

I don't mind the cold on the bike as I've got all the gear and in fact passed my test in winter anyway, but it's not the sort of bike built for winter as it's a sports bike. Shame to lose the ability to ride it for 2 months, but if that's what it takes...

SORN may save you some pounds on road tax, but leaving the vehicle uninsured for that period of time is likely to be a far higher risk.

Yep, fair point. I can lock the bike in the garage, but there's no room for my car.

So far I'm gonna renew her insurance and deal with the others next year.
She's curently with Churchill who have quoted £547 with a £100 excess.

The other sites:-
Tesco = £808 (excess not confirmed)
Aviva = £430 (£150 excess)
A-Plan = calling me on Saturday.

The cheapest so far is YesInsurance.co.uk via the comparison sites at £382 with a £275 excess.

Now I'm off to check if any of these have deals with Quidco.

Maybe you should stop trying to retain your username title by practising on other women then.

It was my hands always suffered no matter what I tried. Think you can get heated mits now I believe lol.

Hell no, never rode my FZ750 in winter, had an old KE 125 trail bike for that.

Make sure its an Admiral Multicar policy you are asking for - ring them.
We always saved a fortune on this and you can both earn NCD.

If you pay by installments too, remember in event of a claim you WILL have to first pay up ALL of the outstanding premium.
i would put it on a cheap CC deal myself. Get a new card and pay it off ASAP.
