If you are looking for an E53 X5 I know an absolute cracker for sale, I traded it in last weekend to my BMW dealer. Is in Northern Ireland but they can transport cars over for free IIRC or cheap flights if you want to view.

Its a Sept 2006 LeMAns Blue Sport Edition ALL the option packs, immaculate, only 27k, beautiful.

No, its the last of the old shape. If you are looking at the new shape they will be 2007 cars and anything decent will be 27k upwards, thats for an SE, if you want M Sport you are looking at 33k upwards.

I'm the wrong person to ask, I have an SE Coupe and an M Sport X5 ....

Although my SE Coupe is a 335 so that makes it nearly an M Sport and it has M Sport side skirts !!

I haven't been following X5's. Are they are new model since the one I would have test drove in 2006? Or is the current model just an LCI?

There was a new model early 2007 so yes it will have changed since you drove in 2006, prior to 2007 is the E53, after that its E70. There was an LCI upgrade mid 2010 although the differences were very slight, main change was engine change from 35d to 40d.

X5s are surprisingly good to drive. Its not the same handling as a lower sitting 3/5 series of course - but a great drive nevertheless. Try one.
I will second that, you will be amazed how well a e70 x5 drives.

I think it was around the end of 08 bm put the new 3.0ltr diesel in the x5 with more power, better mpg, lower co2 and BIK.

Also at the same time they put the new 4x4 system in the x5 you can tell by looking on the driver and passenger doors the newer ones will say 'xdrive3.0d' the older ones will just say '3.0d'

They are still shit in the snow though....

3.0d from early 2008 keeps in the lower road tax band, 2007 X5s will cost 425 to tax. My 2008 35d X5 is 245 to tax, not a major difference in the great scheme of things but the newer engine is a bit sweeter.

Yes, my 3.0d X3 (I guess the same unit) cost 405 to tax in January so think, as mentioned, it'll be 435 this time round. Cars registered between Sept06 & Sept07 were caught in this trap when then Government bought down the guillotine; BMW then revised the 3.0d unit.

Not the end of the world (an extra 1k in tax over 5 years of ownership) to get the right car; just frustrating.

I agree about the extra, whats an extra 200 per year to drive the vehicle of your choice but so many look aghast when you say its 400 to tax per year. Most of them probably don't realise they are perhaps already paying over 200
