328i - Mute cell phone while on call

In a 2011 328i equipped with iDrive, can you mute your cell phone(iPhone) while on a call using the iDrive controls. I know I can press mute on the phone and that works but it would be great to assign one of the buttons on the steering wheel to mute my end. It's handy while on conference calls.

You can turn the idrive knob and select mute.

The buttons on the wheel are not programable anymore.

There doesn't seem to be an option to mute the mic on the iDrive screen while on a call.

The only options available while on a call are

- current phone # displayed
- hold
- keypad dialing
- conference call(grayed out)

No mute option. Can someone test this and let me know if they see something different? Going crazy trying to research this!

Turning the volume control knob only lowers the caller's volume not the mic volume.

My iDrive is paired to my iPhone 4, if that helps.

Hold mutes it. And if you want, you can also dial another number to conference another call in. I use hold to mute it all of the time. How could you not figure this out for yourself?

I had already tried the 'hold' option before. Hold puts both you and the caller on mute so you cannot hear the other party. If you are in a dial in conference call, you want to be able to mute your line but keep listening to what others are saying.

I can't believe others have never come across this issue before!

I don't think it can be done. I don't have a 2011 but on my 2008 I just use the mute on my phone. No big deal, especially if you have a mount for the phone...

I apologize for my short answer before, I wasn't really sure what you were looking for. Do you have this when you are in the middle of a call? Just as an fyi, I also have an '11 September build with Combox and use an iphone4 .

And just to clarify, it doesn't always say "microphone muted", that's just there for a second when you turn the dial to it, the phone number is usually displayed there

Again, I might not have been much help though, I snapped that photo while I was NOT in a CC, just a regular call, but I know I did mute it in a CC just to play with things and learn how they're used. Next week, I have a CC and I will unfortunately be in my car for it, so I will check to see if the mute is there.

Thanks for that picture. No I do not have that option on my car. Turns out my 2011 328i is Aug 2011 production so I missed the combox update. That sounds like the option that I'm looking for.

Leads me to rant about BMW. Did some research about the combo and how its a hardware change. How could they make such an important change mid-year during a model year. That makes me feel cheated! If I was buying a different model year, I could understand that new features could be introduced, but the same model year? How would anyone know to expect feature changes in the same year. They better come up with something that helps us early 2011s get some of those key features if they want to retain our loyalty!

Most conference call systems allow you to mute by entering a digit(s). For example *4 mutes mine. Now, this is not exactly what you are asking for. but if it is a know conf. call provider, you can try that route.

I have combox and many of the promised features are nowhere to be found...

Blutooth mic mute

So sorry to revive this thread, however, I have reached a dead end.

I have been researching through this forum, other forums and all over google to see why my 2011 X5 has this MIC mute feature as shown in the above comments (with the picture), and why my 2011 E93 M3 does not have it.

I am on conference calls OFTEN in my car and i use the x5's mute feature daily! when i go in the M3, i fumble with my phone while driving seaching for the mute/unmute button when it's my turn to talk on the calls.

I searched everywhere to see if I can code this option in without success.

My X5 has the combox for telematrix, and my M3 does not have any combox.

Is this the limiting feature? should i stop looking for a way to code it in?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!

PS: both my vehicles have 2014 software update from the dealership.
