i really don't know much about SLO since i've only been there once. so here's a map. wonder how that laguna lake park is (actually, did a satellite, and there doesn't seem to be very many parking spots there). there's also pismo beach which is a little south of SLO.

so nobody here lives near slo or goes/has gone to cal poly?

Btw, I've heard that you can actually drive onto and camp on Pismo Beach. Of course, most of us would get stuck in the sand.

I've been to Prismo Beach twice and both times are for ATV. There is also Hearst Castle which is the largest historic house museum i 've been to. Other than that, I don't know much about SLO.

OOOO... Pismo Beach sounds nice! I would imagine it to be a more scenic/picturesque spot than SLO. Like most of you, I don't know much about SLO, other than being down there once to check out the school.

The town itself is a bit smaller, making it easier to figure out a central meeting spot. Anyways, just my two cents. I'm fine with whatever people decide.

OR another option if we want to stick to meeting in SLO, is to meet at the CalPoly campus. I'm sure there will be lots of empty parking lots on the weekend, and it's free. Once we all assemble, we could at that point drive to where-ever we want to go from there.

Link to CalPoly campus

If you look on the southeast corner, the parking lots G1 and R2 are right off the freeway.

i have a friend that owns a prelude, and i remember hearing about this north meets south prelude event called ludefest west, that's always held around the SLO area.

in 2003, it was held in parking lot in avila beach, which is in between SLO and pismo beach. from the satellite image below, you can see there is a huge parking lot (after a little more research, one avila beach web site lists it as a "beach parking lot", which sounds like a public lot then). their event was held on san miguel road, so i'm pretty sure it's that lot since it does sit on san miguel road. the thing is, i have no idea who that lot belongs to. but it does look very empty.

in 2004, they had it at santa margarita lake park, which is east of SLO. but that place looks like a PITA to get to.

dunno about the other years. from the threads, sounds like there's always a lot of drama at their events.

Yes SLO is cool. Yes, Pismo Beach has one of the few beaches you can drive your cars. See Oceano Dunes:
http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1207
We have some cool video of our Subaru flying thru the sand off a dune and the sand washing over the entire car when we hit the other side. We had sand coming out of the airvents for about a year.
Needless to say, we will NOT be doing that with the xi that replaced the Subaru.
SLO is a small college town, awesome BBQ, lots of outdoors things to do.
Hearst Castle is I think about 1.5 hrs south of there...
