This would be how much gas a car burns at idle for an houre. If I had a car that got 50 miles in the city I would only get 25 doe to I just

You'd get to work quicker on a bike. I ride the nine miles in to work in 45 min - and the commute doubles as my workout time. If you have a gym nearby or showers at the office, that's the way to go. Why spend all that gas money and subject your BMW to the drudgery of driving like that?

Keep in mind that with a steptronic you might get worse fuel economy. Not necessarily due to steptronic itself, but because it's so much fun to punch it and have the car downshift for you. For some reason I don't mind winding out an automatic as much as I do a stick. I had a ball with my loaner 325i automatic, (very easy to drive and fun to gas it) but I am sure I got terrible mileage because I was driving like a maniac in it. I tend to drive more conservatively (while commuting, that is) in my MT. (I don't rev much above 4000 RPM during daily driving and don't floor it very often).

Was getting 27.6 up to 9000 miles on my 325 manual. I drive her about average I would guess. Had her in for a small issue and they did something to the software which reset the computer as well. Since then I am getting 28.3.....and am at 10,700 miles.....

14MPG?! Something's wrong there... my Carrera gets better mileage than that (16MPG mostly city). I hope that's improved for you by now...

In my 330i, I get around 16-18mpg in NYC driving. This is mostly due to the insane amount of time sitting still or creeping forward in first gear. The other day, I spent an hour moving 1 block (Lincoln Tunnel area).

However, highway milage has been very good. I usually get 28-30 mpg on the highway. Recently on a long drive, I got 408 miles on one tank (I don't drive until totally empty, so there were a couple gallons in reserve). I averaged 70mph on that trip, which included frequent hills, a few mountains, and occasional bursts to 100mph.

Overall, I am very pleased with the milage in this car. I get better milage than my previous Jetta VR6 (and an extra 80hp or so).

The first 3/4 of a tank I got about ~25, probably closer to 26.
I drive to school which is a ~360 mile drive.
I've made 3 trips:
29.7
32.2
33.1 <- Today's,Currently at 1440 miles.

Average speed about 76-78 mph.

Today the AC was off, and I had some spirited driving toward the end, so its slightly better.

This is driving from Baltimore to Blacksburg, 200 miles on interstate 81 (lots of hills and some mountains).

However, I baby my car like no other. My driving is very economical, not because of gas price, because thats just how I drive. If I see a light is red, I keep it in gear and let go of the gas and let the engine slow it down and depending on the speed sometimes upshift to let the engine do more breaking.

I was getting about 20-21MPG in my 2003 330ci and was quite happy with that. My 330i is too new to say at the moment, I haven't bought gas yet (I know, it's been 2 days and I should have bought gas by now....)

19.6~ MPG, provided that your tank was completely or nearly empty.

26.2~ MPG, if you had 1/4 of the tank left, every time you filled up.

1007 Miles on the car so far and my AVG on the computer shows 31.6. I've been babying it for break in and my commute is either about 3 mile city trips or 60 mile highway trips.

Keep in mind that the EPA posted numbers are calculated and not real world experience. The car is basically put on a treadmill and they measure the things in the exhaust to calculate the numbers you see reported. They don't drive the car on the highway and calculate the number of gallons of fuel used per mile. There is some pressure to update their testing methods since it's unusual for a real-world car to match those numbers (although it looks like people here are doing pretty good for the most part).

A lot more driving around town rather than highway is showing me a much worse mpg of about 24.
