I havent gone for the BMW option as it seem very expensive.

Can you get an aftermaket kit that makes use of all the sames functions :-

steering wheel controls
voice recognition
linked to the stereo speakers
etc

Which is the best one ?

I don't think there is an aftermarket one that will work in this way.

The computerised gadgetry in the e90 is based on a fancy fibre-optic system. Aftermarket stuff doesn't work well with it.

You'd need to get something like the parrot system. My recommendation is to install the BMW one though.

Can you do this as a business expense?

As an option I think the bluetooth kit was about 450.

I am sure it can be retro'd for a similar amount as all cars are prewired.

If you use your car and phone for work it should be classed as a legitimate business expense. Either to be reclaimed directly or via a tax rebate.

Just had a Bluetooth Nokia CK-7W kit fitted with BMW telemute kit

Works fine with all Nokia phones and interfaces with BMW Stereo (Muting and routing sound).

If you dont have Logic 7 you can also get it installed with a lead to use the steering wheel buttons if you must.

All in fitted at home on the driveway cost me £240 (the logic 7 telemute kit was £80!)

I wanted this set up so I could use my current Nokia N73 and future N95 phone in the car (with Tom Tom Navigator with post code search, speed cameras, Enhanced Voice control, proper camera bult in etc) - I use my mobile all the time for work and leisure and it does everything I need except work with BMW bluetooth!

see www.fitbluetooth.co.uk

Cheers

Here you go - pics of phone (on leather console) and button near steering wheel

Bluetooth GPS receiver is hidden in little mini glovebox on drivers side and Nokia kit behind this.

This is the reply I had from a company called Autoleads (http://www.autoleads.co.uk/index.html) when I enquired about fitting a Nokia kit to my E92. I'm still trying to find out if they now have stock of the new lead. Will post again when I do.

The 06-976B is correct for the 56 plate (new shape) relase of the 3 series coupe. This will work in a standard manner, and would not work in conjunction with the steering remote controls, however, we will be bringing out the 06-CAN-BMW01 in the new year which can be used in conjuction with a CK7W to interface to the steering remote controls in place of the CK7Ws button. This would give you the following functions from the remote buttons;

Voice Recognition - Press and hold Voice command button (picture of a face)

Accept Call - Press Pick up button once (picture of phone)

End Call - Press Pick up button once (picture of phone)

Reject Incoming call - Press and hold pick up button (picture of phone)

This is exactly what im after, when is it coming out ? did they give a date ?

Basically it sounds like it has all the same functionality as the std bluetooth but will be half the price.

BMW UK this week launched there retrofit phone car kits for a variety of phones. Its for the X5, Z4 New 5 series, 1 series and the New 3 series. The part is £150 pounds, but I am unsure on the fitting time. Call you dealer and ask them to look on this weeks aftersales news section on their infonet.

Assuming you don't have idrive.

If you do have idrive there is no substitute for the BMW kit.

yup, you can control it from the steering wheel buttons. you can get a kit for cars with I drive and without. It also comes with a cradle that neatly clips into the side near the heater control panel like the picture above. The big plus is that if you remove it, it doesnt leave any holes in your interior. Plus you get these little snap in cradles for the different phones. so its future proof. £150 for the part, and a hour too a hour and a half to fit, is very reasonable for a BMW supplied kit.

I got in touch with my dealer who told me it would cost around £2000 to retro-fit the BMW bluetooth to my car!

I have Prof Sat Nav, and eventually want the new Nokia N95.
and i want to be able to use the steering wheel buttons and to control the phone volumn by the stereo volumn button.

What is the best route for me to go down?
Please advise as i cant make head nor tail of all this... a few options, but which is best for me?

Bloody hell ... your dealer must be smoking crack !

I would have thought they would be able to take the entire car to bits and put it back together again for less than 2K and the phone bits can't cost any more than a couple of hundred quid.

yeah i thought as much!

can you give a bit of advice on what 'exactly' needs adding to my car to get the BMW bluetooth working...

or failing that can you suggest a different dealer to approach that has done this work before?

thank

Called into my local dealer earlier & asked about this kit (as Autoleads still don't seem to have stock of the telemute lead I posted about to work with the CK7 kit even though they told me they would have stock by end of Jan  ) & they gave me a photocopy of the following info:

Handsfree kit:

84 64 0 450 744 (for 3 series vehicles without nav) 150.00
84 64 0 420 743 (for 3 series vehicles with nav) 150.00

Quoted Installation time 1 - 1.5 hours approx 150.00 (how does this compare with other peoples dealer rates?)

You will then also need a Phone holder

I need a holder for a Nokia 6320i = 72.84

I've put typed the list out below for currently available hansets (yes it took me ages)

Great work Steve. Top man for typing it all out. The good thing about the BMW kit is with all the complications with BMW electronics, the ones that are not BMW approved can give you battery drain and other issues. This kit is great for peace of mind. The best thing about it, is that when you do want to take it out, or sell the car. There is no holes or marks left on the interior.
