don't park on road being constructed or else!
So I was woken up early this morning due to construction noises. Looked out the balcony and saw this street sweeper thing that looks remarkably like the little vacuum robot from Wall-E. I got my cellphone out and was taking videos of the sweeper when I noticed a forklift approaching... the rest is in the video
![]() I wonder what kind of damage this does to the car? btw. this is in Taiwan |

Hilarious. The forklift looked like it was struggling. But yeah, I don't know how the laws are in Taiwan (actually I don't know the laws here either, I'm just guessing) but I think even if you're parked illegally, they're obligated to tow your car appropriately, not using a little forklift.

Description of the video on youtube says that car's owner was notified and as a result they moved it.
Not only does that suck because surely the underside of the car is damaged. But the owner will also get a parking ticket.... I can't believe that little thing was able to lift the car. I though it was going to tip over and slam the car back onto the ground!! |

I don't think the owner know that his car got moved by a forklift yet, his car is still parked where the forklift left it. There are signs posted all over the wall regarding construction today and tomorrow on this street, asking all the owners to either not park there, or leave phone number to be contacted. Guess they all missed the notice.
I also saw the forklift guy lift a big van, he was struggling a lot, almost tipping over a couple times lol. |

so they started working on the other side of the road, and had to move all the cars back to the side they were on initially. I bet the owner probably don't even realize this had happened

Wow had this happened in the US the construction company would have been in deep trouble, license suspended at least, not to mention paying for any damages.
But somehow I wasn't too surprised. Years back I was in a party talking to this very charming lady from Taiwan, several of us were discussing how bad LA drivers could be, she probably did not fully understood the conversation, instead told us we had not seen the worst, in Taiwan it was not unusual to see people got run over killed on the freeway and left there dead on the road side for days before relatives finally found the victims and took care of the situations from there. We all looked at one another didn't know what to say. |

On the subject of the damage done, due to the length of the forks, there will most likely be bad damage to the underside of the car. The unibody bows easily if the pressure points aren't at the few points specced to handle them. You can tell by the way the car rocked that the forks didn't extend to the other side of the vehicle. Also, I'm sure the rocking exacerbated the issue. The owner's not very bright for parking there if the signs were clear, but I can't believe they moved it that way. I'd much rather call a tow in from far away and leave the owner with a long trip and no car, as well as steep towing fees rather than stressing my equipment like that (like moving the big van).... |

I'd be pissed as hell if that happened to me. Then again, I wouldn't park in the middle of a construction area either. |

Taiwan laws have actually improved a lot. It wasn't long ago that it cost more to hit a person with your car than to kill a person. Let me explain: put a pedestrian in the hospital due to an accident results in hospital bills, physical therapy, psychiatric help, etc. But if you killed a person, you would only have to pay funeral costs + small restitution fees. The choice was obvious to most drivers, and many people got killed. It's all different now though, but that doesn't mean you should cross the street when the lights green. Not to sound to cynical, but it's rather deserving if your too retarded to read a traffic light.
great vid! i lol'd

Forklifts have counterweights that are usually just north of 9000 lbs. They can easily pick up a car. Only issue would be keeping the weight stabilized.
