driving stability controls failiure lights
driving in bad snow last night, had the DTC working, then it started spinning and the abs and brake warning lights came on. Is this a component failure or has the computer just thrown up error lights that can be reset?

I had precisely the same problem this afternoon while trying to get my car out of deep snow. After giving up (!) and parking the car, it picked up ABS/DBC/Flat tyre monitor etc "control system failure"
I had been switching between DSC off and DSC + DTC off a few minutes before this happened. Puzzled! Last edited by ASR1; 12-18-2010 at 01:43 PM. |

Sounds like it's shit the bed because it couldn't work out what was going on with the wheels and has thrown an error because it thinks it's got a duff sensor or similar.
If you leave the car off for a while and then go and fire it up do the errors still come up? |

The same sort of behaviour is seen when a car is on a dyno. I have also managed to trip the tyre pressure monitor with excessive exuberance whilst exiting a junction (loan car - which is always faster than yours )

As others have already said, its a ECU fault given the amount of spin the tyres are doing [and the car not going anywhere]. There is no actual failure - if you switch the car off and leave it, everything resets itself happily.
All in all, nothing to be worried about given the weather. |
