Dissapointed in JB4 Performance, Questions?

I drove a JB4 equipped 335 sedan today, it was an automtic w/o sport package. I honestly could not tell too much difference at all between map 0 and map 1/2. The owner of the car mentioned he ran map 7 with just downpipe/exhaust and he even ran map 7 bone stock after he removed bolt ons.

Wondering if this is normal, was his motor hurt by running map 7 without supporting mods (meth, FBO)? Or does the JB4 just not add as much HP on an auto? I was surprised as most the reviews I read about JB4 are glowing with people saying the difference is HUGE.

that's weird, stock PSI is around 6-7 PSI, map 1 is 13 I don't think there's much difference but you would absolutely feel something, map 2 is 14.5 wich should be more noticeable, I wonder why you didn't feel the difference....

Running map 7 on a stock car is a killer, I used to have sometimes timing drops with FBO and meth on map7.
I can't imagine the timing drops on a stock engine with no meth or anything.

Yeah I was really surprised, I rode in a Cobb 135i with some boltons and it was fast, much faster than my stock 335. It's also about 95F here in Dallas so maybe the heat is making a difference? The oil temps on the auto car I drove were around 250 and my car is around 220 usually.

Was really surprised not to feel a big difference at all. It was small enough of a difference that one time I thought it was in map 2 and it was actually map 0.

I told the guy he shouldn't run map 7 bone stock, will probably mess up his car but he said it's not a big deal and he usually does it to mess with Corvettes on the highway etc.

flash tunes are smoother then piggybacks, maybe that's what you felt, and yes, weather makes ALOT of difference.

Well the 135i was cobb, chargepipe/bov, downpipe, midpipe, exhaust car and a 6spd vs. the 335 which was stock +jb4 and was an automatic. The 135i was night and day faster than my 335 and the 335 auto with jb4 felt almost SLOWER than my stock 335 6spd.

Is it mainly the transmission? I should be able to tell instantly if I put a JB4 in my 335 right?

Are you sure it wasn't a JB3? I used to drive and race around on map #7, 91 octane on a basically stock car (not recommended), with great results. You can get away with it in cooler temps.

Also, FYI, with hotter temps, the JB4 won't be raising the boost higher and higher like most of the flash tunes.

The heat is probably taking away some power but still, you should definitely feel the difference between map 0 and 2... 8PSI<<14PSI

Uh, map 1 is 13 psi, so it's a pretty big difference. I definitely noticed it in mine. I'm assuming OP waited for the oil temp to warm up?

Pretty sure it was a JB4, he said the red power wire was a pain to put in also it had all the steering wheel controls to change maps on the fly etc like JB4. It's hot here in TX. I think the guy is going to damage his car if he keeps doing it unless the computer has some way to intervene and cut boost/pull timing.

it doesn't have anything to do with the transmission either auto or manual, I don't think his car is running properly.

You would feel lots of difference on map 2 from stock, wich can be felt instantly yes.

Map 0 and 2 is a huge difference. I have FBO and when I run on map 0 I feel slow as fuck compared to map 2.... Maybe your "feeling" wasn't that sensitive?

Well when he comes here and says JB4 blew his engine without mentioning these facts, let us know.

Unless he is getting glow fire misfire faults, the computer has probably already retarded the timing, etc. You can get away with a lot on these engines, as the DME is pretty quick to make things survivable. I mean, I have done much more severe things than he has, and my car runs like a champ. But no way on JB4 he should be running map #7. He should be on map #2 to be equivalent to map#7 on the JB3.

And in those hot temps, it is cruel to the engine to be running it so hard...tell him to get meth and it will make a world of difference.

A stock car WILL knock on map 7, but if you look in your post that I did qoute I got the impression you claimed the opposite. It can be a misunderstanding from my side though since I now see we are of the same opinion. You may check your post again and see if the wording i the last sentence is correct. You probably know the language better than me.

He's saying he can't imagine what they're like, not that he can't imagine it happens. In other words, it's probably so bad, he can't grasp how bad they are. Drops is a noun, not a verb in this case
