Stream music through bluetooth?

I have the Logic7 system, non-iDrive, and I am able to pair my phone to the radio which allows me to make phone calls through the car's speakers/microphone. However, it will not play music through the bluetooth.

I think I can buy a bluetooth receiver that plugs into the aux port, but it would be much cleaner and easier if I could do it directly with the radio.

If it can makes calls through the radio, I don't see why it can't play music through the radio as well.

Any ideas?

different bluetooth protocols.

A2DP is the bluetooth protocol that's required and if your car isn't equipped with it, you can't stream. So you're stuck streaming to the aux port with an aftermarket device, or retrofit, but that's not quite as easy...

Ah I see. Any suggestions on a device that plugs into the AUX port?

I use this one, plug it in the center console. Auto connects/disconnects with your car's power. Just make sure when you pair it with your phone you select "Media Streaming" only so that your car still handles phone calls.

Thanks for the link. I don't think my phone car connect to more than one device at once through bluetooth. But I'm getting a new phone this week, so hopefully that one will.

Technically it connects to your media while streaming that but when it receives a call it switches over to whatever connection you have listed for a phone call. Works fine on my Galaxy S4 Active.

perhaps remove your tcu and replace it with a combox? you'll get a2dp

but that'll just force you to do an i-drive and cic retrofit! never mind then. lol =)

Why buy a whole system with a new mic if OP can just use his car bluetooth and a simple adapter for media?

I can tell you from personal experience that he Dension makes many claims that have yet to be proven. I have been through over 7 firmware revisions and I still cannot reliably connect BT media, nor can I view my phone contacts. Every time I get into the car I have to go through a ridiculous series of steps of resetting hardware, tapping phone settings, clicking setting on the head unit just to get the BT to connect. It takes about 5 minutes just to listen to my music. If I knew what a POS the Dension was before I bought it, I never would have.
If you want, I could go into how useless their tech support people are; I think I still have two open trouble tickets that they just choose not to respond to.

You might want yo read about the visseo wma1000 that allows u to stream music and also be able to control your phone via steering wheel buttons. There is a long thread somewhere within this section. You need to have USB with the aux connection and the y-cable from BMW.

I only have the AUX port in the center console, no USB port.

Does the unit shut off when it loses power or is there a battery? My office is close enough to my car that my phone will stay connected to my current device even when I go inside. It has an internal battery so it won't shut off unless it hasn't had a connection for a certain amount of time. It would be nice if I can go inside at work and not have to worry about my phone staying connected without me having to take additional steps (turn off unit myself or switch BT off on my phone).

I guess another way of asking is does this unit always need external power to operate?

Going to guess it (like most devices) does need external power.

Curious though, why would you not want it to shut off?

Because I think that if you were in your office, having your phone connected to the bluetooth unit in your car is a bit useless if you're not there to hear it.

because otherwise you need to re-sync everytime you get in

if the unit can have a little power to remember your phone, it will automatically handshake (like the stock bluetooth)

Hrrm, most devices I've ever had never needed to re-sync.

Well, at least, in the traditional sense of syncing (that I'm thinking of), there's no data that needs to sync if you're just using it to play audio through the aux port. And If you mean, to re-connect (pair?), I've never had devices needed to be repaired even if the device's battery ran dry for months. Once charged and powered up again, the phone will reacquire.

Yes, it always needs external power to operate. It comes with a cable that plugs into your cigarette light adapter to use as it's power source. The Kinivo BTC450 is able to re-sync automatically to the BT devices it was previously connected to once it has power again.

Sorry, pair.

Every time I get in my car and want to stream, I have to open the glove, vput my Mpow into "available" mode, open bluetooth on my phone, and connect the two.

Without battery or power, how will it "remember" my phone?

On the contrary I do want it to cut off. As stated, my current one does not cut off when it loses external power. So my phone stays connected to it even when I'm inside, which I don't want.
