The Tune to End All Tunes
so the other thread was filling up quick, so here is a complete breakdown for you guys:
I have a 2007 328i e90, Step tranny, mainly stock engine (K&N drop in, muffler delete) I was a beta tester for the PBX and ran it for 30K miles, so im very familiar with it. The new tune is not a piggyback system like the BMS, but basically a USB drive for your car that plugs into your OBD2 sensor plug (right above the hood pop latch) its a small module, about the size of a Beeper (a pager, the things used before cell phones...) plugs right in to the car, and you choose between map1 or map2 with a little switch on the module, there is a red LED and a green LED, when its red its loading, when it turns green your tuned and ready to go. Takes maybe 30 seconds to load and switch between maps. the module can also log your engine and see where you can pick up power - send the log back in to us via email, it gets checked out and another tune in written depending on the needs you want to have fulfilled. for instance: you have an awesome car, and you valet it. but you dont want someone Ferris Buellering your car, so you take your tool out of your glovebox, put it to map 1 (in this case you have a Valet mode, limits speed to 25MPH) so your car will bounce off the revs and he cant do anything fun with it. when you get your car back - put the module back in, goto map2 and your fully tuned again. ^ just one scenario of the limitless options. want a map for 100 octane race gas? no problem. wet weather? no problem maps can be custom tailored to whatever you want your car to do (within the parameters of what the engine will permit obviously) Ok on to the power, lets face it, thats all we care about anyway ![]() i gained (to the wheels) about 10hp from launch, 20 in the midrange (up to 5500) and another 9 up top. this is done with adjusting the valve lift, timing, fuel air ratios, fully does the vanos system and valvetronic. we have another session of tuning to do, because we think we can hit 12-15 HP gain up top, instead of the 9 we currently have. then that map will be the base map for the 328 guys, like myself. so your gains will be what I gained. throttle response is greatly increased, that lag out of corners is gone and the power puts you in your seat nicely. the engine takes on a totally new sound and exhaust note also, much deeper and V8ish the cost of the kit is not out yet, they are still working on it - but dont hope for BMS prices for this, these are serious gains for us and worth every cent. I welcome any questions, and locals - hit me up to hear it or feel it for yourself! damn can't wait..so when someone buys the tune, there isn't a preset already? So you would have it log your info, load it up send it, and then you will get the tune you want then put it in the OBD2?

yes the 330 and the 325 will both have a set up too, but for now the 328 is going first, then the 330 and then 325.
The module will come with the standard map loaded on it, specific to your car, but if you were to add an intake, it can be optimized to pull that extra little bit out of it. just send in the log and it will have a new tweaked tune made for it and emailed back. I dont know for sure if it will cost anything or not, im inclined to think no - but dont quote me on that. |

Sounds great! It's nice to know there are others out there still thinking of us N52 NA's. Question(s)...will this tune work hand-in-hand with the PBX or will 1 override the other? Say I'm on map3 with my PBX...I plug in your unit and download. I send you that file and it gets touched up. I then upload the revised map from you. Take out the PBX (if it does not work together with this), will the car throw codes, idle/rev funny?
Also, what is the estimated launch date for this? Need any beta-testers? :-)

Understood. Please keep us all in the loop.
Any dynosheets to look at? Quote:

Also I'm sure you are aware, but if you are going to charge a premium over the PBX, we will need to see comparison dynos etc. Thanks for the hard work!

Hey Craven
what you're describing sounds really good. I like the fact it's going threw the OBDII port, quick and simple. thanks for sharing. I guess we can all wait and see when you provide more info. my question would be: 1. how long have you been running this tune/flash? 2. Any know problems from R&D, thus far? 2. can I remove the tune and restore my bimmer to stock once flashed? 3. Will this Flash be specific per Bimmer? do I need to provide a VIN? 4. What computer support for future flash, PC or/and MAC? looking forward to some dynos and videos.

Good thing I didn't hop on PBX immediately because this sounds pretty promising...
