Rft=block of ice!

So i got my car out after the much covered snowmageddon in the northeast and holy crap stock rft are useless. I mean, "I was slithering this way and that I was all fucked up!" even in slush post plow slush I could not stop, turn or accelerate! I read similar posts from people but of course I had to try for myself. Going to tire place this week for some conti dws.

I'n no fan of runflats, but what you describe is summer tire behavior, not RFT. Conventional summer tires would do the same.

Conti DWS are a good choice for light snow or winter conditions, but won't compare with real winter tires.

No matter what tires you have, you'll always slide on ice. And the RWD doesn't help too much either. I used to live in LI, NY by the way so I've experienced it. There I had an
e46 with all seasons and an e39 w/ all season tires, both sucked in snow/ice.
I also had an e53 X5 and it was OK in light snow, still not the best, but it was the old AWD not this new Xdrive they have now.

The OP appears to have AWD, but it sounds like he has summer tires.

It is these types of "isolated storms" that are the reason why people should buy winter tires.

The compound in most summer tires turns the tires in to hockey pucks when the temp drops below freezing. Don't ask me how I know

Have stock Bridgestone RF's on our 328xi's and Pirelli PZero Nero's my Audi TT 3.2Q. Snow today near Philly was no problem for any of our cars. But, you guys are right - I would never run my TT with the 19" PS2's in the winter. They turn to stone under 35-40 degrees and are very dangerous in snow. Swap them out every November and April.

While the Conti DWS' are good tires, they really aren't suited to the weather we've been getting in the last couple of years.

Perhaps you should consider a winter tire set on a second set of wheels.
