anyone drive the n53?

wondering if any euro folks here have driven the 265 hp (272ps) n53 engine in the 07 and later 330i in europe? It has no valvetronic but does have DI and a little more hp and torque.

Wondering what it was like or noticablly better/worse/different than the n52? Personally valvetronic is absolutely awesome at instant throttle response and smoothness-It is noticable on previous I6 engines without it so curious how it feels

I see them often but I've never driven one. They also use the N53 in the 130i.

I would have bought that if it were available. But it isn't for obvious reasons.

We may not be getting them at all. BMW wants to go all turbo. The NA I6 will be a turbo 2.0l I4. All speculation of course. I haven't heard anything official for BMW either way.

really? It only has 10 more hp than the n52 and 15 more TQ. I mean sure that is nice but not a chance would I take the problems with a HPFP which it has just like the n54 and DI with the HUGE problem of valves being soaked in carbon due to lack of fuel cleansing going over them--for a 10 hp and 15tq gain in performance over the 255hp n52.

Then again numbers on paper are decieving so that is why I was curiuos if it was noticably quicker.

It loses the Valvetronic but gain DI-should have had both like the n55 does minus the turbo.

anyway too bad nobody has driven a n52-255hp and the n53 -that would be the only way to tell

well I would take it in an E92....cause the only NA engine we have is the 230hp N52, so I would gladly take a 265hp NA E92 over a 300 hp twin turbo...+ im sure the N53 can easily reach 300hp with some tuning

some of us still prefer the old school motorsport type naturally aspirated engine with a 6MT...boosted engines are awesome with AT, but with 6MT...somehow they do not match well

As long as the HPFP is still a problem, I don't want anything to do with a BMW that has one. VW/Audi had an excellent NA V6 with DI and has no issues with their HPFP.

Hopefully BMW solved the problem with HPFP (I have now the 4th generation pump).
For what I invested in my 325i (manifold swap, ECU reprogramming , exhaust, brakes, suspension) I could get 335i but I donít like turbos and I knew I can bring the N53 performance close to standard N54.
My previous car was 330i E46 (Canadian version). 325i E92 had less hp but it is lighter and the performance was almost equal.
Iím happy with what I have. Little less power than 335i but lighter car and better handling.
