Am I missing something?

I just took delivery of my 2011 328i. As part of the deal, I got the dealer to include OEM rubber floor mats, which were installed at the time of pick up. However, no carpet mats were included. When I asked the salesperson, he said that BMW no longer includes carpet mats as standard equipment. Is this true?

Also, does anyone know how I am supposed to get the free year of Sirius that was supposed to be included with one of the packages on the car?

Rubber mats are standard now (for the front). I just took delivery of my car early this month from Downtown BMW. As you know, if you want to buy the OEM rubber mats, the dealer charges over $100 for them (front only)

3 series haven't come with any standard mats in US for as long as I can remember. But any GOOD dealer will always throw them in as an extra.

Maybe I am not explaining myself very well. The dealer did give me the rubber mats. What I was asking about are the floor mats made out of carpet ("summer mats") that have been included as standard equipment with every car I have ever purchased previously (BMW and non-BMW). The dealer said they are no longer included as standard equipment, which would mean that if I had not negotiated the inclusion of rubber mats in my purchase, I would have received no mats at all?

In my situation, I did not even negotiate for rubber mats. I figure I will get the carpet mats on delivery, but instead rubber mats were put in placed on the delivery day. I did not ask why since I felt the rubber mats are totally more useful than carpet mats. It could be different dealers have different ways of dealing with mats ??? (for reference: My 08 535xi came with carpet mats - front & rear - as standard)

So, in your case, the negotiation for the rubber mats to be included in the deal may be pointless afterall. Maybe you can contact BMW Canada for clarification.

I would not get too hung up on the mats. Just enjoy the rides !!

Lastly, for the Sirius ... I think you need to activate this by call in BMW Assist ... I think a code is required from you.

Just picked up my 2011 328i in November and recieved both sets. I had to "negotiate" to get the rubber ones... They came bundled together in the trunk with the carpet mats installed in the car. I'm thinking you should have recieved the carpet mats as well but maybe it is dealer dependant. Hope you are enjoying the car regardless. I'm finding the OEM rubber mats pretty much useless in the snow. They aren't deep enough or contain enough snow / slush / water. I've got a nice salt ring forming on my carpet because the snow just sneaks in underneath and melts.

Anyone got any tips for removing the salt?

Clean with Vinegar and Water

Mix 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray on salt stains. Let stand for 15 minutes.

Press a clean towel on the stain. When towel becomes saturated, repeat with another dry towel. Allow stained area to dry.

Repeat the process, if necessary

I thought all of them came with carpet mats. Mine came with carpet mats. I do not know if it was because of European Delivery or just standard.

I just spoke to BMW Canada. The representative told me that the carpet floor mats (or mats of any kind) are no longer included as standard equipment. He was not sure when this change happened. He said that many dealers choose to supply the mats at no cost to the purchaser, but that is a dealer-specific decision.

Editorial comment: I have to say, as a previous owner of a 2000 323i and now a new owner of a 2011 328iX, BMW has really "cheaped out". There are all sorts of things I have noticed in my new car: no cover on centre console storage (in front of gear shift), cheaper plastics all around, missing anchors in the trunk, the floor mats, no first aid kit, no repair kit, etc etc (I am sure I could go on and on). Overall, the car feels less expensive inside than my 2000 model did. But still a hell of a drive!

Your Sirius should have been set up when you took delivery. When I picked up my car, the dealer set up my Sirius account and BMW assist account before I left the dealership.

My dealer threw in a set of both, but I've known him for almost 50 years!

I had the BMW mats also and they do suck for the winter, I ended up buying these and they work so much better.

I agree on Weathertech mats.

My first BMW was a factory delivery in 1990. I had to buy mats at the delivery centre. Then they told me that they would not ship them home. I packed them in my luggage!

On the Sirius not being activated that sounds like a miss on the part of the dealer. You paid a lot for the car and then you paid the dealer to do a pre delivery preparation and inspection. If that was not completed (eg Sirius not activated), they should compensate you with a set of carpeted floor mats.

Good luck and enjoy the drive.

Just picked up my '11 Touring XDrive last night. I too thought I was smart by asking the dealer to throw in the "winter mats" (which are the rubber mats). I had assumed that the nice carpet mats would be in the car in any event. Oh well.

Sirius should have been set up by the dealer before you picked up the car. My dealer spent about 45 minutes with me last night going through Nav, pairing the phone, showing how Sirius worked etc. He was pretty thorough.

I have also discovered that they also forgot to give me the adaptor for the wheel locks. I am really not impressed with the delivery process.

hehe. My 1st delivery i was stressing out alot too. Thankfully i was pressing on salesguy and bmw like crazy before the delivery so when i've got my car everything was in order. I knew if id ease down or let things slide something gonna come out wrong with the car...
