Anybody still running Eibachs on stock shocks?

I know several people were running this setup before there were any aftermarket shocks available, but I'm wondering if anybody has went this route and not switched shocks or went with coils after a while. I've read pretty much every thread containing "eibach" and "xi" on here, so instead of bringing back a thread from a few years ago to ask, I'm hoping to hear from some of you early adopters back when some of those "xi on i springs" threads were created. How have your stock shocks held up with the eibachs? Still happy with the setup?

Thanks in advance!

Nice, thanks for the replies, guys! I've pretty much made up my mind on getting the Eibachs, I'm just looking for as much feedback as possible from anyone with experience with them.

Anybody else want to chime in?

I didn't think eibach made springs for an xi? I've heard of people using springs for the I, but I don't know how good of an idea that is because the xi front is heavier.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about this. Here is one lengthy post about it:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=xi+eibachs

There is also another long thread that I can't seem to find right now that has a lot of info about people dropping their xi on i springs. I'm interested in the Eibachs because they don't drop the car as much as the H&Rs, and seem to eliminate the rake. The reason for my post was that these "xi on i springs" posts came out a while back, so I was trying to see if anybody was still running this setup or if problems came up later that caused people to switch. I'd assume there would be some posts about the Eibachs "i" springs failing on xis or something to that effect if it did happen to anyone (which I haven't found).

As far as the weight difference goes, (don't hold me to this) but it seems like i read that the xi is only a couple hundred pounds heavier than the i version, and obviously they design the springs to withstand much more than what a car would experience under everyday driving conditions. Otherwise you'd see people with f'd up suspension all the time because they gave an overweight friend a ride to McDonalds.

In my experience with searching the forum, I found considerably less complaints from xi guys running Eibachs (on stock shocks) than those running H & Rs. It seemed to me that more people were commenting on the harshness of the H & Rs, with the exception of a few people, and the drop seemed to tuck the back wheels under the fender a little, which is just not what I am looking for.

At any rate, I'm thinking I'm just gonna go for it and see what happens. If you drive through KC and see me near a McDonalds with a sick look on my face and a horrible suspension failure, feel free to stop and say "I told you so." haha

^^^ you'd probably be better of getting the hnr xi springs and get the sp lowering perches. Both those together will cost you $300 and you'll know that you have parts made for the xi. Just my opinion.

OK guys, I got the install done this afternoon, with a TON of help from a friend of mine who is a mechanic and former m5 owner . I will probably start a new thread once I get some decent pics; I couldn't really get any good pics as it is pouring down rain in the KC area right now, and I can't get any good pics in the garage.

A few thoughts from the install:

Everything seemed to go pretty smooth for the most part. We didn't use any air tools, and followed the DIY guide posted on here. We did notice that the sizes of some of the bolts were either different on xi's, or mislabeled on the guide. But that was nothing major, and didn't really throw us off at all. As the guide says, the fronts are quite a bit more time consuming, but we were able to pull the whole front shock/spring out and work on it away from the car. But the spring compressors just take FOREVER to tighten/loosen the springs, and the fact that you have to do it 4 times just starts to get crazy. The whole job took us about 5 hours, but there was significant BS'ing going on I think we took about twice as many beer breaks as recommended in the DIY !

And with regards to the ride:
We performed the install at my buddy's house about an hour away from where I live, so the only drive time I've had was about an hour drive in hard rain. I'm still running the stock 16's with Dunlop Winter 3Ds, but will also be putting on 19s within the next couple weeks (just trying to decide between Conti extremecontact DWS and Hankook ventus v12 evo as summer tires; any recommendations?). However, I did notice the car seeming to handle a bit better, with less body roll, but that's to be expected with shorter springs. The ride height is also as expected after looking at similar posts. I really couldn't tell any added harshness to the ride, even when going over a few bumpy spots. I'm going to wait to formally pass judgment on the ride quality, as I've heard the ride quality can worsen as the springs settle. As of right now, I'm really happy with the improvement for the money.

Anyway, thanks for your help everybody, and look for a new thread in the upcoming weeks with some pics.

Strangely enough, I bought them on amazon.com. I was planning on buying from tirerack, but they didn't have any in stock at the time, so I googled the eibach part number and found them in stock and just a little cheaper. I think I paid around $220 total.

I've had them installed since 2008 and when the car only had 19k. It is now 2011 and my car has 53k. I can feel my shocks needing to be replaced soon, but they are still good.

I'm also in KC and thinking about selling my i and getting an xi for the winter. Thought I could do it with winter tires, but it's not good enough. Great thread, can't wait to see some pics!
