local BMW stealer quoted 119 if I supplied my own oil for the oil service..

BMW allow customers to supply their own oil, as long as it is one of the recommended type

Yes that's exactly it. If you're considering going to Sytner BMW then PM Anneka for your quote for service with you supplying the oil.

I didn't see the correct oil at Costco yesterday, 5W30 they had was Castrol Magnatec not Edge/Edge Sport. They have 0w 40 Mobil 1 (not ESP longlife which the dealers use/more expensive) for circa < 25 for what I think was 4L.

Halfords have got some good deals on Castrol Edge/Edge Sport. Even the M3 specific 10/60 is cheaper, I'm ordering some for an even earlier oil change, working out cheaper than Opie Oils whilst the offer lasts (I haven't looked for their discounts yet).

Thanks guys. so does the oil have to be the same brand as stated in the BMW manual or can it be a different brand as long as its the longlife 5W30 ?
Thank you

No it doesn't have to be the same brand but like you said it needs to be the same specification or higher. However better to buy good oil for the sake of a few 's more.

119!! Damn that's good. I got mine done just before Christmas and I paid 185 and that's with my own oil supplied!

Who is the dealer out of interest?

Christ, thinking about it, at 119, even if I had drive up to Solihull from London it would have worked out about the same!

What services did you have done toxicnerve?

Edit - think I've answered it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you have more than just an oil service done, at least according to these anyway:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...63&postcount=1

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...8&postcount=15

Brake fluid change and an oil service perhaps, with you supplying the oil?

I recall Sytner Chigwell were also slightly cheaper if not the same as Birds.

Oh, by the way the recent circa 119 quotes seen on the forum are for oil service only. OP used his local Sytner too is my guess. I don't get it, a lot of people are going through the Forum Relationship Manager and getting prices for servicing etc they're clearly ok paying otherwise would not be having services through them, and still not content

Ah fuck it!

You're quite right, that would indeed account for the discrepancy!

I'll go sit quietly in the corner now

It's a question of consistency right. "Happy to pay" is one thing, however if you find out that someone else got the same service for a lot less, wouldn't you feel like you'd been duped/ripped-off? Obviously that is not the case in this scenario (just my stupidity) but if it were I'd not have been best pleased, which surely you can appreciate? Call it a matter of principle.

No, toxic's service was acually an oil sevice (with own oil), micro filter change and brake fluid service.

No_ball hope it all goes well, if you require any assistance please let me know.

Indeed, I just put that, I thought the MF was done as part of the oil change or is it a seperate item?

They are different, the micro filter is actually a cabin filter

I know that! Not a total mong (although all evidence points to the contrary).

I thought they were done as part of the same service. Clearly I was wrong...I see a pattern developing here...

Just to clarify, Sytner Solihull have quoted for an oil service, 119 squids, on the proviso that I supply my own oil. Oil advised should be Mobil 1 0W/40 turbo diesel. The cheapest I have seen on the net is 40 squids for 5 litres. So will need to spend 80 squids at least.

If I dont supply oil, then the cost is 220 squids. I have also advised that as I work for a sports car manufacturer in Warwickshire, maybe another 10% discount there??, hopefully (Anneka, pretty please..). In hindsight I should have asked for a microfilter service thrown in for 250 squids in total, save me going in again in 2 months time..

Just do your own microfilter service, it's a piece of piss.

Order one from the parts department and keep the receipt for your records.

Is there a code that needs to be reset or can this be done via the stalks/iDrive?

Thanks Willhollin, does a service warning light come on when it is time for the filter to be changed? Does the service book need stamping? I have just taken out extended BMW warranty and want to do the right thing, bit paranoid as you can tell.
