Louder but gain power? lol Get yourself an exhaust if you want loud. Or you can do what I did and replace the tube leading from the manifold to the airbox with smooth piping, K&N Drop In, and cut the Carbon Filter out. I'm adding scoops next week. Seems to be doing me a hell of a lot better than that silly shit aFe Intake did.

Do you think a performance exhaust is louder than an afe?

Are you planning on a tune? If you are going to keep the car stock, stick with a drop in. If you plan on doing software, the afe intake is a solid choice.

If you have to ask this then you DEF shouldn't be modding your car yet let alone even think about modding it. That's just plain common sense.

IMO, the air silencer/carbon filter delete and a droop in filter is the best, bang for your buck mod.. No sound though. This is what I have and it is slightly louder but still stockish.

You really are just paying for sound when you get an aftermarket intake. You get like 2 HP.....not worth the sound IMO.

I would recommend the aFe with a good tune such as AA, OE or BMS. The added sound of the afe at higher rpms makes driving more enjoyable. I can hook you up with an aFe cheap and I live in South Florida.

BMW isn't a tune...

You're going to lose power with the aFe.

I have dynoed higher with my Modified stock box then I did with aFe. car is fully tuned also.

the aFe drop in is a good option, but the CAI is really a HAI and wont do any real good once the car is up to operating temps.
