Question JB3 - Check Engine Light - Any smart peeps feel nice today?

I just took off my old SSTT yesterday before work and installed my JB3 v2.0 today. Love it!

However, I got side tracked and attempted to crank before attaching the JB3 to the wiring harness.
(Super 'tarded, I know).

Anyway, engine coughed and snarled before I shut down and realized the bone head move I did.

Installed properly now, runs fast, but the darn CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on.

How can I get that cleared?

thanks in advance!!!

2007 335i MT, no other mods but JB3 v2.0 w/ my 93 octane....

If everything is installed right, that CEL will go off itself after a few miles

Confused.... I thought NO CEL = NO codes to clear?

If I am wrong, what harm can come by not clearing codes after the CEL goes out?

The CEL light will clear but the code will remain in the ECU memory.

read my post and you'll see how/why the CEL most likely came on.

p.s. not sure what the hell this means: "...how u installed jb3 that u getting check engine light?" Poor grammer or am I missing something?

Thanks Mike. But what harm would that be? (leaving the code in memory)

Or are you suggesting that would be a red flag to a BMW tech?
If so, I'm not worried. They can't prove I had anything plugged into the ECU on my car still under warranty. (Don't believe so anyway).

This.
I don't know what code would be present, but a bunch of codes at the same time under no engine load would be a red flag for DME tampering. And although you can say you didn't do it, most techs won't care and are only going by what they see on the screen. They could care less if it was you or another mechanic. Best case senario your warranty remains intact and you get to foot the bill. Worse case senario, engine warranty goes bye bye. Always scan for codes before taking it in. You don't always have to clear them. However, I'm sure if you scanned your codes as they stand now, you would see the necessity for clearing them. Don't sweat it for oil changes, but should your car have hpfp issues or misfirings scan/clear the codes.

Correct. Got JB3 wiring harness all in place but then tried to crank w/o the dang JB3 box itself in place. DOH!!

UPDATE: took for another spin and the CEL is now gone! Plus, the car seemed to purr better (JB3 must be settling in as these tunes take a couple of drives to 'tune in' I think I read on these boards).

QUESTION: what does everyone suggest to clear codes? (cheap solution please)

Exactly, you still want to have whatever random code that was thrown cleared by a BT or CAN tool.
