Hi all ,

Im trying to decide which model to go for, ive already run a DMS 535d sport touring for nearly a year before selling it and buying a volvo V70 which i have been running for again just over a year.
Ive sold my weekend car and now want to have something that is more nimble than the v70/5 series and also more fun.
I do about 30000 miles per year but i remember that the DMS 535 did about 26/28 mpg so does anyone know what a 335i will do ?
As for discounts ive found Coast2Coast cars can provide a discount on a saloon with my options of nearly £5000 has anyone else managed good discounts from their dealers ?

Hi scoot. Go for the 335i. the engine in superb and flexible. Around town I am getting 20 mpg but on a good run out on you can get around 30 mpg. The car handles really well but is a bit reluctant to be thrown about like a small car. Go for the coupe if you dont drive with 4 people all the time.

I average 26.8 mpg with the 335i (1,700 miles covered so far) This is a mixture of back roads, town and motorway and if any help re comparisons I got 29.8 average from my previous E46 330ci Coupe.

Nearly done 7,000 miles in my 335D at an overall average of 40.44 mpg.
Calculated from the fill-up info not OBC.

Since 2,500 its felt freer and those 4,500 miles have returned 41.1 mpg

I find it hard to beleive you get that consumption from your 335d. I average about 36-37 MPG tank to tank with a wide mix of driving (London, A and B roads and quite a regular few long (250 miles+) motorway trips)
I don't think you are expoiting the performance of that motor enough!

I hope (but not holding my breath) that we will get that sort of consumption out of our 335d. Our last 330d was averaging about 33MPG (fill ups not OBC) and even long runs only pushed it up to 38.

We shall see.

Bear in mind that the one thing I don't do is drive in any stop start town/city traffic...only once straight after filling up did I have to endure about 10 miles in 30 mins of sort of stop/start congestion conditions and the MPG (OBC) dropped to 32 but by the time I had driven another 35 miles home its was back up to 37....

Also note that 80% of my driving is a near 50 mile each way commute between 6:00 & 7:30 both am & pm.
Pity its not a manual cos I reckon it would be 2-3 MPG better still.

If the MINI is used I typically get 35-36 mpg



Ultimate diesel makes no difference whatsoever on the 4 time its been used..however each time I have filled with TOTALs standard diesel I have gained another 10-15 miles.

That kind of driving probably explains the very good MPG. Stick mine on a motorway and set cruise control on at 10mph north of the speed limit and it will do 43MPG. I did this once on a trip from Berkshire to Glasgow - 400 miles and trip OBC was telling me I stil had 175 miles left in the tank!!
I have been using BP Ultimate over the last few tanks and really do not notice any differecne either.At .99p a litre do not think it is worht it. Interesting what you said about the TOTAL fuel I have used this a few times and although I can not confirm if I got more MPG or not a did notice the car flet a bit "perkier".
Have you tried the Shell V-Power diesel yet?

My 335i has just covered about 2500 miles, im averaging about 21mpg and getting about 300 (max) out of a tank...

Im using Shell V-Power and use it in varied driving conditions...

Do you want a manual gearbox? In which case it has to be the 335i.

Failing that, for the mileage you do the 335d is the only sensible choice.

Sounds like lots of your time is going to be spent on the motorway, where the 335d will be the faster more economical car.

The 335i would only be an option if you want to get away from the torque heavy deisel 'feel' and get a high revving .. more sports car like ... petrol engine.
