Information regarding DCT
I have a couple of questions that I have not been able to find definitive answers to regarding the DCT.
1. Is the DCT in the 335is the same mfg and model as in the 135i? 2. Assuming they are the same - who makes it and what is the mfg's model number? 3. What are the specifications - particularly what is the tq rating for the transmission. Thanks |

1. Part number 28007585538 (the dual clutch transmission) is the same part for the 135i, Z4 3.5i, and 335is. 2. "GS7D36SG," which is the model name for the transmission, means "G" for Getrag, S7 for 7 speed, and 36 for... 3. Nominal torque rating. It's good for up to 360 ft-lbs. Which is standard operating procedure for almost all manufacturers, they only specify transmissions with nominal torque rating as high as the max torque output for their engine (because to specify transmissions with higher nominal torque rating cost more). According to my buddies who works for [name of transmission manufacturer withheld for their protection], the unspoken rule for the nominal rating for transmissions typically mean that that's the torque rating they tested the transmission for and can guarantee its sustained operation. Which means, the "max" torque it can handle can vary as much as anywhere from 25% more than the nominal rating to 50% more than the nominal rating, but it depends HEAVILY on the transmission design. For example, automatics can typically handle a lot more power increase than manuals. Transmissions with MORE gears will have less variable from the nominal rating than transmissions with fewer gears.

I'm still struggling to find anyone that can say whether the 335 DCT box shifts smoothly all the time..... seems like an obvious question but buggered if I can find the answer!!!
Is there ANY feeling when making a DCT shift or it it smooth transition up and down the box......

Depends which mode you have the transmission on Sport or Sport+ or Normal mode. This Transmission is very smooth, i can tell you that.
