e93 Stuck Hardtop

I just bought a CPO 2008 328i Convertible with 30K miles. It has another 1 and 1/2 years on original warranty. The hardtop goes down fine but when I try to put it up is "sticks" as it comes out of the trunk about 50% of the time. If I just nudge it a little by lifting on the roof with my hand it will continue the cycle and go up.

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you know of any service bulletin's out on this?

I have an appointment at Rassmusen BMW today to look at it.

Thanks.

First I've heard of it. Thankfully its under warranty. Clearly the motor can't overcome the friction so there's either too much friction or not enough motor.

why are you worried about it if it's under factory warranty? There's probably some resistance in the track system somewhere.

Thanks for the reassurance. It's at the service department.

Sticking Convertible Roof

I just started having the same problem with my 2008 335i roof. You can see it lift a little from the trunk then get stuck. A slight lift by hand unsticks it and it continues up okay. Please let me know what the dealer said was the cause and the fix. Luckily I stil have warranty too. Thanks.

I've had two E93's and the only time I've experienced anything similar to what you have described is when I tried to put the top up while the car was on an incline.

I got it fixed. The dealer said it just needed lubrication. It seems to work fine now. Fingers crossed.

Did they show you what they lubed and what they lubed it with? Maybe next time you can just do it at home yourself if it's easy. Living 100 miles from nearest BMW dealer gets me thinking like this.
