Ride quality with Style 199 Wheels

Hey guys, do you think the ride quality will suffer if I get the 199 wheels with my sport package?? Here are the specs:

Type 199 (Front: 19x8 ET37 225/35 R19Y) (Rear: 19x9 ET39 255/30 R19Y)

I don't want it to be a bumpy ride? What do you all think?

I can tell you that 19" is not practical. If you want to spend $1K every time you hit a pot hole, go for them.

Guys, I a feel really dumb asking this. But, is "run-flats" a property of the wheels, the tires or both?

Does anyone know if the 18" M3 wheels are run-flats?

thanks

Only a property of the tires..Theres a thread detailing the run-flat theory...And NOOO!!! Dont swap the 162's for the 199's!! NO wheel is nicer on the E90 than the 162...And theres proof that the 162's do NOT compromise the ride quality as opposed to the 161's or 156's...

Could you post the deal when you find out? I think I'm going to switch from the standard sport 330i wheels, as long as the credit is fair.

Thanks, Josh

Its a property of the tyre ( strengthened sidewalls ) but they cannot fit all wheels, the wheels have to have EH2 humps to accept run-flat tires

Continental is the only manufacturer whos run-flats dont need wheels with the EH2 humps

No the M3 doesnt have run-flats, no M car has ever had run-flats

Hey guyz...I got misquoted. The actual price for the rims and tires are a little under 4K!!! Might as well get aftermarket wheels......but those 199's a re just so stunning.

Yowza! That is pricey dude. I will stick to the 18's on my car. I'm still worried about dented rims with those. No need to upsize even further.

What's the deal with dented rims then? Is the rim shot after it happens? Can it be repaired?

Depends on the damage and the type of wheel. I've seen wheel repair shops do some amazing things. If you have a bend and it's not too bad they can usually fix that, but if it's a crack you'd problly not want to repair it anyway since it's structural integrity will never be 100%. But say the damage is big, but it's a multipiece wheel, then you can just have the wheel disassembed and the damaged piece (i.e., a bent lip) replaced.

I'm running on 19" with my e90, also with sport suspension. The car was delivered om 16" oem alloy wheels with 205 wide tires. When i picked up the car i was a bit dissapointed about the ride quality of those 16".

About 1 hour later i went to my rim supplier to fit my 19" wheels on it? And i was afraid for the ride comfort, specially because thos 16" run so hard.
For the moment i'm still amazed, because on my 19" rims the car rides really smooth, there's allmost no difference between the 16 and 19" rims.

So i'm really happy about this.

Style 199 Wheels

I love the style 199 wheels and called the dealer. He said there is a three month wait! I am trying to locate a place where I can get some knock-off's, but they are too new

My default option is to get style 162's in 19" (depending on offset) or 18". I take delivery on Tuesday and am going to this place to get them.....check em out! - Joe

Don't credit your 162's to the dealer, they won't give you sh** for them.... You can get a lot more for them if you sell them yourself. I am sure there are plenty of members who would give you 2 grand for your 162's (including me). 162's are the best rims in my opinion!!! :rocks:

Hi if may add my info: I had to collect my 330i last week without the 179 Star Spokes as ordered as both dealer and BMW UK told me there is a technical issue with the wheel and tyre combination, also applies to the 199s. I would be interested to know if any 179/199 wheels have been delivered to you guys.

I'm running 20's on my 330i sport package....and I can't tell the difference in ride quality in comparison to the style 162 wheels....except the ride is higher.....don't have to worry about scraping the front end as I back out of driveway....

Don't trade or buy from the dealers....they'll give you like a 1/3 value for your wheels and charge you 3x's for a new set! Get an aftermarket set.....so much cheaper!
