Giving blood...

Have/does anyone give blood on here? I did last night for the first time and it was alot easier than I thought and didn't hurt at all and you get free biscuits

Looking forward to doing it again in 16 weeks

3 people passed out while I was there!

A very nice feeling doing something for someone else for no personal benefit well apart from biscuits

Fox's biscuits? if so i'm in!

I've thought about it, but even though I don't perticularly mind needles, I(most people) seem to tend to avoid them when possible. But what's a small prick when you're potentially helping to save someone's life!?

Not fox's but they did have clubs and a wide selection of biscuits, digestives, bourbons etc...

I think most people would like to but most avoid needles when ever possible!!

It does give you warm feeling knowing you could help save someones life

Great thing to do you never know when you or a loved one may need to call on the blood bank

did it years ago but not since - it was fine no probs with needles etc. Just need to get organised and do it more regularly... As is said above - you never know when you or a family member/friend may need it...

I give blood.
As said, one day it might be me or a loved one that needs it back..........

I started at college and we all used to go and have a pint (or two) straight after.
Straight to your head!

My dad had 2 liver transplants in his life amongst other things and would have used lots of blood from the blood bank so I feel like I should do it.

I didn't got the pub, might try that next time I did feel a bit weird after though!

OMG, just got back in and read this.

It actually doesn't equate to that much, even though as a woman, you'd think otherwise as obviously it's mixed with wee. 35 millilitres with 10-80 mL considered normal.

It's also not the same as blood as we know it. It contains uterine tissue and mucus but the blood which is in the menstral discharge is the same as the blood that runs through your veins. An enzyme called plasmin, contained in the endometrium, tends to inhibit the blood from clotting.

So filtering would be required.

In russian we have an expression 'to drink blood' meaning to be unbearably annoying.

So I gave blood once, and now the blood place has been 'drinking my blood' since, should have given a fake number.

I give blood 2 to 3 times per year. Done it for over 10 years now and sort of fainted 3 times right after they pull the needle out. I now always have a drink with me and sip it during the donation. I get nervous each time but you never know when you might need it back.

Good on you. I used to do this many years ago before I went to uni.

This thread has given me the kick up the arse I need to get back into it.

Frankly, going by the responses to this thread, I'm surprised at how few people appear to give blood.

There is always a big queue at the place I go so there must be quite a few people who donate. The biscuits have declined in quality over the years.

My dad has been donating blood for his whole life. He stopped 3 years ago, due to his age.

Ive been blood donating for over 18 years now, its a great feeling that you give life, to someone else...
