Can anyone tell me this noise

I just had my turbos replaced from BMW and now it sounds like a humming coming from around my turbo or above them. When I unplug the lines it goes away. It this a vacuum leak?

Everything was just replace by BMW. No smoke is coming out of exhaust if it was the solenoids wouldn't there be smoke coming from the exhaust?

They replaced turbos prolly not the solenoids. Did you ask solenoids to be replaced? How many miles? Yea you can call or try replacing. Its about $80.

What do boost solenoids actually do? Are they the actuator for the waste gates?

The boost solenoids provide vacuum to open or close the waste gates. I would bring it back to the dealer if your still under warranty. If not they are pretty simple and straight forward to replace. Plug n play. Just replaced mine the other week. Cost $80 bucks each.

Not 100% sure about that. I would assume not a big deal but maybe one of the very well versed members can chime in.

Also boost solenoid is a guess based on the noise and the mileage. Doesn't mean it couldn't be something else. Because the noise somewhat sounds like air being sucked in through a break in the vacuum hose or even the canister. It couldn't hurt to check all the vacuum the lines.....especially the ones attached to the bottom of the canister. Those oem lines tend to harden and produce cracks in them.

According to my Cobb my boost is holding and not fluctuating under WOT. I'll take a look at the lines here soon

That's one thing down. Good luck with getting that fixed. Let us know once you figure out what's causing it.

I wouldn't change anything yourself. Take it back to the dealership.

Well I just did some logging and it actually does seem to be fluctuating boost levels and looks to be not hitting the boost levels for my tune. It also seems under powered but I'm not throwing a low boost code

Because this happened right after getting the car back, i would def take it back to them. IfffF its not gonna be covered by them or what not, then take it into your own hands.

Let them figure it out otherwise replace the solenoids

Underboost code requires 3 seconds of sustained underboosting

Under boost code is not cut and dry as you could be in a gray area where you are making enough boost not to trigger it.

The boost solenoids don't always throw codes either.

This car unfortunately doens't throw codes for everything, sometimes it takes a little old skool mentality and understanding of its qualms and characteristics.

Based on that noise I'm extremely confident it's the solenoid.

Thanks you for you input. It's not going to be covered since it has 71k miles and out of warranty. For them to even diagnose the problem its $100 for the first hour. So I'm going to take that $100 and just use it towards new solenoids. Easy to install easy to fix.

Also I can feel the power band just kinda glitch and come back on so yes your right about it not throwing a code because it's not losing boost for more than 3 seconds.
