N55 Walnut Blasting

I'm at 52k miles, been FBO for about 20k miles. When do you guys think we should be doing a walnut blast?

To my knowledge, we don't need the walnut blasting like the n54. Not nearly as frequently anyways. I think some people have gotten it done at 100k+ and said that there was a little build up, but again nothing like the n54 would see.

^This... OP what Curtis had just mentioned, the N55 in short has proven to be more efficient and tbh I have yet to perform a walnut shell blasting on an N55 engine.

There have been a handful of people that have done them between 50-80k and all have said to wait until 100k+ on the N55. I might do mine when I do my PS2 install later this year and I will have about 105k on it. I will take pics of how they look when I do.

On my first N55 I walnut blasted at 47k miles and it really didnt need it at all, literally clean as a whistle.

Same day I looked at an N54 of similar mileage the valves looked like an abandoned oil well!

I had mine done at 50k and I would have waited until around 80k.

Great to know! I have 68K on my 335i and was thinking of doing it soon. No engine mods yet, so I'll be waiting until 100K+.

104,000 on mine, and the ports still look fine.

Turbod & JETmn: N55 To Blast/Not To Blast...

Turbod, I actually read till my eyes bleed. JETmn, Thank You! for the pm personal guidance. Hopefully, the overnight RED + Saturday delivery of those "eh" parts (e.g. exhaust manifold studs, coolant and oil hoses, etc.) will arrive within the next eleven hours as promised. As the saga: "my nightmare on jackstands" otherwise known as taking a 2011 335i xDrive from stock to FBO + PS2 w/o cat-back/axle back exhaust or meth continues, I decided to kill sometime waiting for all the parts to arrive by walnut blasting the intake on my car with 51K miles with a kit purchased from B*V*uto. Please feel free to pm me for a a much less expensive and more effective walnut blasting equipment choice that require the purchase of the H***** F****** blaster.
(BIG HINT: to others considering my course of action and wish to avoid seven weeks of truly pi**ing off your wife of 38 years, wait for all the goddamn parts to arrive before putting your car on jack-stands)
Compared to an N54, it would be hard to justify blasting an N55 intake at 50K miles unless you made all the stupid mistakes I made raising your car up without all the parts on hand. Yet, my valves were not pristine like others have said. Given my circumstances & BMW OCD, I plan on doing this every 35K. Understand, I have no factual evidence-based rational behind this decision.
JETmn, for all the pm wisdom you have provided, if you ever find yourself traveling through NEPA between May & September and have 3-4 hours to spare, stop by and I will gladly do it for you for free.
Assuming my "eh" parts arrive as promised, I just might have a much quicker car by Monday night.
