Question First service appointment

Could you guys/gals please explain when first service appointment is due for a new car? Is it based on mileage?

Thanks!

Your car will tell you when it is due for an oil change but you can expect your first oil change to be due at about 15-17k miles and about the same interval thereafter.

Thank you. I thought it is based on mileage. I am being bombarded by dealership with scary emails ("Third reminder - boo!!!") to schedule yearly appointment. My car is 14 month old, but only 8,000 miles and I just wanted to double check here.

You may be due for an annual change. BMW has been playing around with "we'll do annual changes, no we won't, yes we will, maybe" so your best bet is to call your dealer and ask them if your car is due for an oil change under the included maintenance plan.

You'll be fine until the 15k since you should hit that in the 2nd year of ownership.

For those posters who will jump in and say how cheap BMW got once they added maintenance, I'd like to point out that in Germany (where there are no included oil changes) the interval is 30k km or 3 years - so about 18k miles.

The owner's and service manuals that came with your car explain how the condition based service system works. Take some time this weekend (it will be raining) and read up on your car. It's not hard to understand.

What Eninty said. Specifically, look up "Service requirements" in the owner's manual.

Also, you were entitled to a free oil change after one year, so by all means, schedule your service appointment. (CEB isn't aware that BMW went back to the annual free oil changes about 6 months ago.)
