Sleep Deprived Driving?

I had some pretty bad procrastination, and now its almost morning and i have to drive to school at 6:30am. That'll put me at 25+ hours of no sleep.
Just wondering, if im hyped up on coffee will i be fine driving (ie i don't "feel" sleepy)? I'd hate to "microsleep" and put my life or anyone else's in danger .

Any of you guys have experience?

You'll feel good for like 20 minutes, then after that get really really tired. That's usually how it goes for me.

I crashed my Exige falling asleep on the highway. In my opinion, it's FAR more dangerous than drunk driving. I'm now extremely paranoid about driving tired and simply don't risk it anymore. If I'm feeling even slightly drowsy, I'll ask my chick to drive. I consider myself very lucky for surviving my accident.

Bottom line: DO NOT DRIVE TIRED.

you can try coffee but the effects are different from person to person i think.

but if u start sleeping pull over and take a 15 min nap. lots of architecture students in my program have gotten into accidents and totaled cars because of lack of sleep. we sometimes stay awake for more than 24 hours just to beat deadlines. had few close ones. would also help to nap in car before leaving school if too tired.

When I used to work nights, I would pull over and take a nap on the way home after work. I caught myself dozing a few times. I was careful from that point on.

Driving while extremely tired is very scary, I try avoiding it at all costs.

This is the worst...

This past holiday season I ended up having to cut a few days off of the beginning of my vacation because of work obligations (last minute BS). Long story short I didn't get to leave until 9PM on Christmas Eve. Problem was that we were driving from Chicago to Minneapolis (7 hour drive in good weather) in the middle of a snow storm. I actually was pretty good until about 3hrs out from Minneapolis. By that time I had started running a train on 5hr energys. At least 1 every hour for the last 3. Surprised my heart didn't explode.

Got in at 4:30AM.. exactly 30 minutes before my niece and nephews woke up for Santa. Which made it totally worth it.

Anyway, 5hr energy seems to keep me the most awake for the longest period of time. Coffee has zero affect on me.

I'll never do that again.

i once made a 14-hour drive after a day of no sleep. i did it all in one sitting, too. i slept for almost an entire day after that.

5 hour energy is what got me through it.

^^ Sorry, Tondtar.

Driving tired is not worth it at all. Especially when you can't control the moment you drift off for good. Maybe if the drive isn't that long, but for extended periods, its just too easy to fall asleep.

In my situation I realized just how tired I was when I first entered the highway (like 2am, road deserted) and said I would pull off the next exit to nap. I stayed in the right lane driving 65ish and the next thing I knew my head was hitting the drivers side window as I hit the left guardrail - before I even reached the exit. Were it not for the guardrail, which is absent from much of that road which is separated by large trees, I would have hit a tree at 70mph. It's an absolutely terrifying experience that I don't wish upon anyone. Be careful out there.

^ ouch.

I work mornings too, sometimes 6am or 7am, and on some days really lack sleep. Been so tired, bumped my car into my garage on more than one occasion as I came home. costs me $400 a pop.

I can't park for shit when Im tired and seems I lose my sense of depth/distance perception as well.

A) 25 hours? Fucken pussy shit. Call me when you hit 48 at the least

B) Caffeine will heighten your senses but wont actually make you any more awake. So when you fall asleep driving and go into oncoming traffic and kill somebody, you better hope you're dead as well because they'll charge your with manslaughter at the least once they see this thread.

scarier is to not wake up again. or wake up for a brief moment, have a burst of pain and fade to black.

Dont do it but if you feel like you are going to fall asleep in your car, get off the freeway, park somewhere and run around your car a few times then punch yourself in the stomach and face then you should be good to go. Works for me every time.

most of the time i'd pinch my arm and my thighs. in rare occasions i'd slap myself or shout at the top of my lungs while driving.
