Remove ashtray? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I have an automatic transmission and I would like to be able to remove the entire ashtray from the console if it is possible. I want to mount a Kenwood KCA-R71FM in that area so that i can close the door to hide it.

Is the ashtray/lighter area removable or is it built into the console? If it is built in, does anyone have any idea of decent place to the mount the Kenwood unit?
