BMW OEM "Lifetime Trans fluid" oil analysis after 70K miles
Someone in another forum posted this, after he pulled out his OEM lifeguard6 fluid from his car, after 70K miles, and it looked and smelled terrible. He had originally brought it in for a leaky seal, and the warranty company only wanted to pay for 1 liter of top off fluid since the stealership charges $50/bottle Boys and girls please change your transfluids every 30K miles if you want your transmissions to last. Lifeguard 6 sold by the stealership is really re-labeled motorcraft mercon SP, which can be had for $4:00/qrt online.

Did they give an confirmation that it was Mercon SP, or are you stating that from your own research that we've discussed?

A while back on German Tv show Mobil(formerly Auto Motor und Sport TV mag) had a story on BMW a/t trans failing at around 150K to 200K kms. One of the tv show's reported had a 330d 3er that his a/t failed at 150K kms. Lifetime fluid my a$$.
What surprised me was the private company in Essen that is one of the few automatic trans repair shops left in Germany says you should change your a/t fluid every 40K kms!!! That is every 24K miles!!! Dackel My original post with this story from AutoMotor und Sport Tv... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...utomatic+trans |

Its FACT, from the Australian Petroleum Institute. I don't even use OEM or Mercon. I put in 7 liters of pentosin AFT1 30K miles ago, and tomorrow, my machanic is putting in 9 liters. No issues with my trans whatsoever. All the fearmongerers on here were dead wrong. You must change ATF fluid regularly.

Anything above 100,000 miles is considered "Lifetime" by BMW's standards.

Thanks. Why do you use Pentosin vs. the Mercon?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

All the places I've looked the Pentosin costs roughly the same as LF6.

Ever consider the synthetic Amsoil ATF fluids? I've heard great things about them... Have used there engine oil for a while and all of my cars run awesome on it

This is a great thread! Any good links as to where to buy these transmissions fluids for a particular bargain? And of course, I use that term loosely!
