I'm usually between 220-250. Completely stock w/ 500 miles on it.

Observation Based On Experience
During normal conditions in the cold weather (this winter) mine runs at 200-205 on the highway. If I hit her hard around town she will climb to 250 or so. I called the service department and spoke with a bunch of mechanics at the dealership who I know well. They said for me to watch it, not to worry, but watch and let them know what happens as the weather gets warmer.....so I think all of us, including our mechanics aren't quite sure what is and isn't normal/going to happen.
ALSO, keep in mind that as we have discovered in other "posts" all 2006 ATs (mine is the only one I have found that does) DON'T have a transmission and a oil cooler, so I am willing to bet the MTs will run cooler. Finally, remember that through Shiv's research we have learned that our 335i's run VERY lean, which will cause increased temps aboce what we may have experienced in other BMW's/cars. Shiv's "ProCede" may possibly place more stress on some of the cars parts because of increased torque, but with the richer mixture, it will decrease engine temps and actually help your car out. More infor than you guys need or want, sorry if I blabbed too much ![]() |

I hit 250 if im driving hard, back to back continiously. If im driving tho it hits back to 210 in a few mins. If im just idle then it takes a while for my car to cool down

Your 335i when fully warmed and cruising on the highway has the needle left of the 210 mark? Yours has to be the only one. I would even consider having it checked out because that is way different than the rest of us as far as I know ![]() |

Yea man i live in laguna beach and its not that hot here either and i always see my oil temp above the middle point of 210 ( i think its 210 i dont feel like going downstairs into the garage to check). Its always between 210 and like 260, even when im driving normal. I just think its wierd since my old 330ci's oil temp was always dead center in the middle between hot and cold

6,300 miles on 335i coupe. AT in cool weather.. 35 to 50 degrees after warmup I get to 230. At 75 to 90 seems to settle at 240. When pushed I have been to 265 or so when it had fairly low miles. Temp does not seem to rise related to stop and go but to high speed with high air temp.

Here is why I think that is: The cooling system in this car is very sophisticated, one by product is the oil temp will move during normal operation. If this was an older designed car with a thermostat, the movement would tell you that the system is having trouble keeping a constant operating temp. which usually means trouble. This is NOT the case with the 335i. Software maps "look" for different driving styles and based on such determination, the head temperature is changed. The oil temp will have an inverse relationship to these changes. Another words, when the head is kept cooler, you'll see a higher temp. at the oil gauge. So the oil temp will go up as the head gets cooler, which happens when the car goes faster for long periods of time. This probably explains why everyone who has had a heat related issue has had it when tracking (fast speeds, no a/c, lots of air flow) rather than stop and go with the a/c on, which will raise the coolant temp, rather than oil. |

hmmm...
265 degrees.
I do not like those numbers. 40 degrees cushion is not that big. I wonder if this temp thing hindered the recent BMW 3 series that Car&Driver (I think Car&Driver) burned an engine due to overheating. I will check the article when I get home. I am planning to track my car and if the temps are that high in normal driving mode, I will fry the turbos within the year in 30 minute balls out runs. My Audi for instance, factory turbos had very thin weak shafts. The temps rise, oil breaks down and the shafts wobble and vibrate themselves to destruction. |
