Mac notebook hard drive

Do Apple notepads use similar hard drives to PC's?

Got a mate who desperately needs to get data off a hard drive, I've got a hard drive caddy for a laptop, but not sure if they're compatible.

Hardware is exactly the same but Apple and Windows use different storage formats. NTFS/FAT32 for Windows and errr... something else for Apple.

what you are copying the data to will need to be re-formatted to Mac OS X Journaled before copying any files to ensure they are written in the correct format and you dont corrupt anything or lose data
