how can i remove the shift boot from knob?

recently i purchased the high gloss interior trim. when i installed it, i had the BMW performance shift boot and shift knob. i then decided that i wanted to upgrade the shift knob to the high gloss version, while keeping the alcantara boot. i just recieved my high gloss shift knob, but the standard leather boot is attached to it.
how can i safely remove the boot from the knob without causing any damage to either?
THEN.....
How can i attache the alcantara boot to the high gloss shift knob?

thanks guys.

If I understand correctly - you want to remove the Perf knob and replace it with the new high gloss knob while keeping the alcantara boot?

Just pull straight up on the knob. It takes some force to get it off. Then put the other knob on an press down until you hear a click.

correct. however, the new knob that i have came with a leather boot attached to it. i need to know how to detach the leather boot from the high gloss knob, and reattach the alcantara boot to it.

a bit of history:
when i recieved my alcantara boot and performance knob, i had to remove my M-sport knob and boot. upon doing so, i had ripped the knob right off the boot and damaged the seam that helped keep it in tact. the M-sport knob that i removed had a small white plastic ring underneath that i had to pry off with a screwdriver. since then iv sold my performance knob an currently have the M-sport knob paired up with the alcantara boot.
Now what i want to do it pair up the alcantara boot with the high gloss knob. but i'd like to know how to do this properly before i damage another leather boot and risk having the high gloss knob not looking installed properly.
any ideas?

Let me know
