Changed rear pads today having had a read of the forum...I reckon you guys have saved me about 400 (I guess $550?) and the whole process easy as pie. The clearing the service advice can be a bit fiddly but apart from that simplicity itself...Thanks
For info took an hour and a half...I was taking my time and it is cold out though.

Dude this is great. I've been thinking this whole time that I'd have to have a shop plug the car up to clear anything but the TPMS. I've been drivin around with these light on for 3 months after I changed/replaced pads/oil myself.

Holy crap this was frustrating. All E90s do not work the same way. Mine is a 2007 E90 335i with navigation. Here's what worked for me:

1. with engine running
2. press and hold odometer reset button
3. service light will appear (yellow triangle)
4. while still pressing odometer button, press and release the BC button TWICE on the turn signal stalk (pressing only once does not work). Service indicators will appear.
5. use the thumb scroll on the BC stalk to cycle through the service indicators (brake fluid, oil, brake pads rear, brake pads front, service interval, state inspection, etc).
6. navigate to desired service indicator
7. press and release the BC button, it will ask to "Reset?"
8. to reset, press and hold BC button - a rotating hand of a clock will appear
9. when the clock goes away, release the BC button
10. turn off/on engine to confirm that indicator light has been reset.

I just re-did my front pads with new sensor and tried resetting it multiple times. I've got a 2008 335i coupe. The reset only comes up while it's running. Otherwise it brings up some foreign words with numbers. When I reset mine, it just shows the mileage as "----". So I'm guessing I need to try unplugging the new sensor check the terminals and try again.

Finally got mine to reset, did it with the car running. I'm so happy to finally drive without the light on its been months from when it first came on in like December I didn't get around to replacing the rear pads, rotors and sensor until mid February and just got the light to reset today.

I got mine to reset when I did the rear pads rotors and sensors. Just doing the fronts alone didn't give me a full reset with new mileage. I had to do front and back. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the warning every time I start the engine anymore!

You might have to go thru the screen to see what it is actually saying needs the work. It could be oil change, brakes, etc.

I'm not sure then. Did you replace the brake pads and wear sensors? Or the message just randomly popped up?

It was all fine.only reminder that was on was the service required soon,I reset only that one and once I turned car off and back on I get the brake pad low message.a lot of meat left on pads anyways.

Hmm. I'm am not sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some info. Did you check to make sure the wear sensors are installed correctly and haven't started wearing for some reason? I had one come loose on me once. Just an idea. Good luck!

Just to add to the confusion. This procedure doesn't seem to work exactly as expected across all E90/1/2 models and years. The reason? Probably the result of procedure changes across code releases with a little bad code from the overseas developers being hired for cheap to come up with this crap.

My 07 E90 335 simply refused to do anything properly until the door was closed and the engine running with all warnings acknowledged ( navi forces acknowledgement that pads need to be replaced ) and all negative/warning icons disappeared and the instrument cluster showing time and temp. Only then would holding down the ODO reset result in the desired access to the reset menu. In my case, this is what worked:

1) get in the car
2) close door
3) key fob in slot ( mine does have comfort access )
4) start the car
5) sit there and acknowledge all warnings and wait until time and temp
display on the cluster
6) press and hold the ODO reset
-- after a few seconds, a yellow triangle comes and goes away
-- a few more seconds later, continuing to hold down the button,
-- you get the reset menu displayed on the cluster, which in my case
-- the first "icon" was for cabin filters
7) now using the thumb toggle you can scroll through icons to what you want
8) then press and hold the BC button down until you get the reset clock.

At current, the BRAKE light is still illuminated red after all this, but I'm hoping it goes away after some driving.

Hope this helps somebody get through the frustrating BS that is BMW internal hidden menu systems.
