just wondering, some are saying that there cars are pulling harder while others say its the same. Maybe it depends on how bad each individuals pump was?

Mine seems pretty much the same. Had HPFP, 5 injectors, and software done earlier this week.

Only thing I really noticed, is that after the recall, on cold start the engine idle at slightly higher rpm ~1100 for a min until it warms a bit, then starts dropping slowly to normal idle.

Garage List
2008 335i  [3.78]
My car feels pretty much the same as it did before. No significant turbo lag, but it seems to be a bit louder than before. Plus you'll hear the fuel tank pump priming the stystem. Other than that my car feels the same...

The same as before the recall, but after some subsequent work about a month after the recall, the engine is much smoother and faster than before.

Big improvement in low end torque following pump replacement but my pump showed the typical pre-failure symptom of a long crank time (3-4 sec). The car had actually lost all power and stalled twice before I brought it in and got it replaced. Ironically I got the recall notice 3 days later. So whether you notice a difference or not probably depends upon the condition of the existing pump.

If your car has a long crank time I suggest you go ahead and get it replaced. I was on the highway in the high speed lane (where else) when the car lost power and then fully stalled within 15 - 20 sec. Not a good situation during rush hour traffic. BMW claims the recall is emissions related but it can be a big safety issue too if the pump fails at the wrong time.

So, if i haven't received a HPFP Recall Notice for my May 07 335i Coupe I'm not affected? Car was bought as CPO from a BMW dealership and registered with BMWNA when I financed it.

I thought that was funny when I got my letter. Like anyone would drive around in limp mode with the engine chugging. Pretty sure at that point, I'd want it fixed (unless it's putting out slightly less fuel, causing an increase of of emissions without limp mode--hence the emissions comment?)

I believe all N54 engine vehicles are effected. I just got my letter last thursday. You can check with your dealer though. The recall is free, so they'd just do it for you with or without the letter.

I think there are some who had issues, and they don't feel like talking about it every time a new thread starts up. We have seen stories where the car was fine before, and after long cranks and stalling, and those where they went in for the update, and 3 days later the dealership can't program the DME and it has to be sent to NJ.

The way I see it is it's like, "body shop offered to bondo and repaint my entire car. Should I do it?" Not if your body is in perfect shape.

I had the oil and filter changed at the same time, so the car feels better, but it may be due to the oil and filter change.

One thing I noticed is the sound of the exhaust is louder at low RPM than the previous software version.

I understand the recall says some N54 engined cars are affected, not all. Anyway, I've got a Service due in 1600 miles so I'll find out then.

Same awesome car (software update/hpfp/injectors #2-5 recalled) although the mpg appears to have slipped a notch.
