Would be nice to have light pulley for more power

Really? This isn't a NA honda. The reason the rubber is there is for harmonic balancing, but we should need too much on an I6 since it is inherently balanced.

Yeah, don't fuck with your engine harmonics. Its a lot more effective on things than you would think.

The OEM is Corteco I think... I've only been able to find genuine BMW, but I'm sure someone from OEMBimmerParts will be able to help track it down.

The balancer is really easy to change compared to like every other car. Just a series of bolts and it pulls right off. No struggling with a big center bolt or anything.

It's just a Harmonic damper, not a balancer. The N54/55's, as well as most of BMW's engines are internally balanced.

Harmonic balancer and damper are interchangeable. An inline 6 is nearly perfectly balanced in the primary and secondary phases so it doesn't need external mechanical balancing.

Jet.... What? LOL... Was that a correction or were you just agreeing?

But yeah, a balancer is also and damper in most cases, but a dedicated damper is not technically a balancer.

It's interchangeably used in the same way that people say "Freon" when they really mean "R-134A." It's not correct but...eh we get the picture

Are you saying a harmonic balancer actually balances the crankshaft mechanically? I think you need to do some research. It only balances the harmonics, not physical balancing. That is build in to the crank shaft and why engines with improper inherent balancing have balance shafts.

Actually, a harmonic balancer usually around 25-60oz is mated with a matching flywheel, balances the crankshaft assembly, and has a fluid or rubber harmonic absorbing ring.

A balancer does not balance harmonics itself.

I think you are getting mechanical and harmonic balancing mixed up. A harmonic balancer does balance harmonics, that is its job. It does not have anything to do with mechanical balance though (might be an oddball case here or there, but not on most engines).

Just took a look at mine tonight, and it's wobbling as well. Could be the source of my strange engine bay noises. There goes 500 bucks on a new one.
I know Justpete was working with ATI on a superdamper. Dunno if it ever came to fruition. I'll ask him and see.

Pete didn't get back to me yet, but i found this
https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac...n54-p3758.aspx

I contacted VAC to see i this will work with the N55. Will update you guys.

The big advantage of this is for people with LWFW and/or solid engine mounts

nice! hopefully it will fit the n55. my mechanic said I'm just going to screw it up again running higher boost, is there any truth to that?

Here's what justpete said:
"Got it, installed, all vibration is gone. They're in stock for both N52 and N54 at VAC Motorsports. Pricey sumbitches though. I've followed some of the N55 discussions but I've no clue what the difference is between an N54 and N55 damper."

So this is the link to the damper he helped develop, or at least tested. https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac...n54-p3758.aspx

I checked the part #'s for the crank pulley for the N55, N54, and N52, and they are all 3 different numbers.
The numbers are different between them on both RealOem, and ECStuning

We will see what VAC has to say about it fitting the N55

Okay sounds promising, just don't want to buy one and it takes a shit again. I'd rather pay more for something more reliable

You do put more stress on it the more power you run. It is still trying to turn all of those accessories, but at a much greater acceleration rate. I think an aftermarket one would be great! Then we shouldn't have to worry about it again.
