Completed Combox and 6NR retrofit.
]Im very excited to post that my pre-October production X5 50i has underwent a successful Combox and 6NR retrofit by Patrys. The functionality is amazing and I am very happy with it. I have everything including Album art, Bluetooth streaming audio, office (limited because Iphone isn't supported), Internet (with Iphone tethered) and BMW apps, which is very cool. I will post some pics to show the functionality.
The process was relatively smooth, probably all in all only took about 4 hrs total with the hardware and software installation. I would highly recommend Patrys if you are interested in doing the retrofit. Contact him for the details. Thanks!! |

You know that something weird is going on when a 6NR retrofit is posted in this forum way before anybody with the 6NR installed from factory have posted his/her impressions of it...

If you already have the Combox is 6NR pure S/W coding or is there H/W as well?

What's involved in getting this done? I heard that you need to take the car in to be software updated by the dealer?

Thanks for the thumbs up Heath!
It was nothing but pleasure to work with you and I have a feeling we might work on something together soon In fact the X5/X6 can only come with the 6NR if it's an April build, so technically there might be no X5/X6 with the 6NR delivered to the customers just yet |

Contact me for more details (include your VIN too) if you are interested. Guys from Florida and California can contact me too since there will be the 6NR activation day organized in these states. Last edited by Patrys@BimmerTech; 04-06-2011 at 01:52 PM.. |

So I take it you found a way to activate the Combox Telematics radio or was this a 6NR Combox Media install?
I haven't disassembled a TCU to verify, but is the GSM radio integrated to the unit or modular, and if it is a module, can it be swapped to the newer Telematics Combox? |

I hope Heath you do not mind I am posting this in your thread
Today our team is bringing you another exciting news on the 6NR ConnectedDrive retrofit. You no longer need to wait for the new base plate and snap-in adapter to use the BMW Plugin and video streaming. We are offering a retrofit kit that will let you have these features enabled through the USB port for much less than the cost of the new base plate and snap-in adapter. This retrofit is available to our customers signing up for the 6NR ConnectedDrive Group Buy. For more information and pricing contact me by email at info@modyfikacjebmw.pl |

I just wanted to update this from my original post. I have completed the 6NR retrofit with the Plugin and video out using Patrys USB Y-Cable solution. The USB cable works flawlessly. Its much better than using the snap-in-adapter. The USB cable is an OEM product and there was no splicing of wires as others have mentioned. I highly recommend anyone who was thinking of doing the 6NR retrofit to go with Patryk's solution. You won't be disappointed.
