Brake Caliper Painting

Tell me what you think about doing this, apparently many folks do this to get the sports look for a minimal price. Here is the link to the product on Tire Rack.
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/g2/caliper_paint.jsp

I took a cheap shot with Photoshop, but you get the idea.

My 330i isn't a track car, although in some (possibly stripped) form its certainly quite capable of it.

I won't be doing that on my car for that reason. No need to pretend. Plus I don't think any color except the normal metal would go with my beautiful Arctis paint.

As Armen say no need to do it, if you want that look just save up enough money to get a big brake kit

Interesting, but i really like the way porsches look with the red calipers, not sure why I am attracted to it. Even the new Infiniti M45 has them painted as standard, at least the one i drove yesterday, and last time i checked, that is a bloated sports sedan.

Obviously, its purely an asthetic thing, does add any value other than looks. I'm sure red will look kinda funky with Arctic Silver, but maybe that's why it comes in so many color options (the caliper paint).

Any one else have thoughts? I'm curious before buying the $45 kit to do it.

The G2 paint is the way to go if you decide to do it. I've seen a few friends use this with good results. Just gotta take brake cleaner and clean off the calipers real nice and then apply multiple layers of G2. One thing tho is that often the caliper surface aren't smooth (dunno if that's the case with the E90), so it won't come out as smooth and nice as say porsche brakes.

Here's a DIY for painting your calipers.

Man i like that ///M inscription. I am starting to think that Black or Silver on my BSM e90 might look good as well. Let me photoshop it.

why?

Why bother painting the brakes? The reason why Infinity and other cars have it painted because they have the real BREMBO brakes. If you paint it, it'll look cheap and rice looking.

Rice looking? I guess it also depends on how the paint job goes. I saw some painted ones this weekend and it looked like the real thing.

Here are some other possible colors.

I say to each his own.. if the owner likes the way it looks, who cares if it happens to be the same color as brembo brakes. Now, if he goes and puts a brembo sticker on it, then I'd say that's posing but otherwise go for it if you like it.

I like the idea, but Im not sure about doing it with the 162's...The appearance if those wheels shouldnt be compromised...They are just to damn nice...

Having said that, I think the paint would look sweet on some 161's or 199's....

Bozo, i agree with you, it will probably look much better with wheels that were more 'open' in the caliper area. Well, it was a good try!

the problem is keeping them clean. You will constantly be cleaning brake dust off of them.

Won't it be easier to wash off the painted surface? If anything, I would paint mine black just to keep them cleaner looking. Red? No.

I've noticed nothing but your avatar for the last two days. I don't even know what city I'm in any more...
