Do I really need to use 91 octane?

The owners manual says to use 91 octane on my 06 330i. Is it really necessary?

I mix 89/93 at alternate fill ups ( normally tank up around 1/3 tank). Even then, the EMS will adjust for lesser octane. Many folks here say they use 89 all the time with no problems.

won't the lower octane really affect knock esp with turbo'd cars?

why do ppl buy 50k cars, then cheap out on the $3-$5 difference per fill up. Even if you fill up every week you're only looking at $260 a year....your car was built to run on premium why not let it run at it's optimum efficiency

Is it really necessary that you bought a BMW?

Sounds like you can't afford one if you want to save on gas.....

Our cars have octane and knock adaptations.....our cars will lose performance if you use a lower octane but it will run fine.

This! Although a 2006 330 is not a 50k car anymore. \

OP your car will love you and drive better if you stick to a miminum of 91.

premium gas usually costs 30-50 cents more than regular. If you go through 15 gallons a week, you're only saving 7 dollars and 50 cents. That's 390 dollars a year.

Suck it up

You'll get worse fuel economy on lower grades so no, it doesn't cost more to run on premium. I don't know the figures but it may cost less?

A Camry requires premium fuel? WTF

If it doesn't REQUIRE it, you're just throwing your money away.

If you can't pay, then don't play.

I drive my Honda Accord 90% of the time. BMW for weekends.

I see people that live in apartments drive Hummer H3s with 26" rims or Infinitis... It seems that the image is more important when they are completely broke.

The difference between 91 and 93 is HUGE on the turbo'd cars...I hate only being able to run 91 on my car (and the logs agree with me). I can only imagine how awful those logs would look on 89.

Threads like these always pops up whenever the gas price for premium goes above 3.50 USD per gallon...
