Looking to... -Use a citrus wash to strip off as much as possible (Chemical Guys) -Dry w/ microfiber -Use Dodo Juice clay lube + fine grade clay to go over surfaces that need it Now I do have a question, do I need to wash again after the clay or can I just use some instant detailer at that point? I don't have enough time in one day to do the glaze+ sealant in the same session, I will do it the very next day. Thanks Mike.

You have tons of options here.
For the interest of time you could just pull the car inside wet, and just clay then, that way its that much less touching with the towel, but also the water will help as well. As for born slippy, I *think* it leaves a little slipping agent behind, so a rinse is recommended - or just don't purchase it if you haven't already and use your preferred QD in its place. A rinse is a good idea otherwise just incase that stuff you are claying off becomes knocked loose, but still around on the paint. It doesn't need to be a 15 minute rinse, just get the stuff off kinda thing. This is the reason we tell guys to just get something like Final Inspection, ONR QD(my personal fave - I go through a couple gallons a week), or OID from OPT, so if something is left, its the kinda thing that's "supposed" to be left by a QD- that way it doesn't cause a problem with polishing, but is also easily wiped away with IPA or FI. I tend to wash - clay while wet - rinse if its THAT bad or in the case of overspray - or just move on to drying. Sometimes, depending on the location(and weather) I will dry the car first, and clay it with Final Inspection, wiping up the clay lube as I go section by section. Its really up to you but with DD BS I think you have to rinse albeit nothing crazy. If you choose to wash, I think if you just dropped your suds on each section, and worked around the car, you probably wouldn't have to wash(as in wiping motion) and could rinse off. It sorta sounds like your contaminates might be tiny tar flecks, or just non metallic fallout especially seeing your location now. I think a fine grade should be more that adequate. The cleaning action from the glaze should brighten your LeMans really nicely. Do I make sense without making you over-think everything(I am terrible sometimes)? |

Awesome, awesome - what a reply!
I have all the stuff I need, except a solid few hours' time. Yes the Dodo clay lube is very slippery, even more so than ID (I have Optimum ID).Quote:
Based on what you said, this is what I will plan for -Wash car (Chemical Guys citrus) -Rinse but don't dry, clay necessary surfaces -Rinse again -Dry and apply ID Next day: -Wash -Dry -Glaze (Chemical Guys EZ-Creme) -Sealant (Blackfire Wet Diamond) -OID And for wheels - Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, Optimum Tire Shine. Other things - I have a pressure washer that can mix solution into the spray so I put it on low and use it to foam the car and let it sit for a minute or two before I start. Seems to make cleaning easier. Additionally I have a powerful blow vac I used to help the drying process. Nice to talk detailing ... it's something I truly enjoy doing.

You know realistically you should be able to clay, foam/suds, PW off, then actually just flood rinse the car so it just drags all the water off, then you can forced air dry it and use OID to get the light spots specs.
You can also use your EZ creme on wheels, treat it as a light polish and give them a quick once over before your PB sealant. It should clean the surface nicely and probably give you some extra gloss after you buff the sealant. I like a "grippy but slippy" clay lube myself, but really all the details we do are all correctional and enhancement, so if it marrs, no big deal because we will be polishing anyway. I feel like things like ONR QD and Final Inspection(try this sometime) allow me to feel the clay on the surface better. I enjoy it too - I am very lucky to do what I do ![]() |

EZ Creme on the wheels you say ... I will definitively give that a try.
Always a delicate process to wash a nice car ...from what I can tell, there are no visible scratches or even faint swirls on my clearcoat, and I plan to keep it that way. Within a week of getting it I had done the EZ-Creme and sealant, it's held up well. I'll see if I can photograph my process. Hopefully the weather holds up and I can start tomorrow after work. Thanks again Mike.

I worked on her for 2 1/2 hours last night, this is what I ended up doing:
Soak car, spray with P21S Rinse after a few minutes Washed with Chemical Guys Citrus wash Clayed with Dodo Juice lube + fine grade clay Rinsed thoroughly Sprayed wheels w/ SONAX, then brush cleaned with leftover citrus wash Dried + applied Optimum ID Chemical Guys EZ-Creme glaze applied to wheels, let dry, buffed off Applied Poor Boy's wheel sealant Applied Optimum tire shine Paint seems stripped of all the old stuff, so that's great. There was hardly anything on the paint to clay, so it took only about an hour. Just some spots around the side skirts and one or two deposits on the hood/trunk lid. It was pitch black outside by the time I finished. And guess what happened after that ... it poured. But I don't care much, since I am washing again today.Tonight: Wash + dry Chemical Guys EZ-Creme glaze Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant Optimum ID I shall take pics ![]()

Also guys I have made an appointment with Alex at Helix Motorsports in Philly to get an AR 4" Catless downpipe and a JB3 N55 Stage 1 tune. Looking for gains +50-60HP, conservatively.
I will be the first N55'er with the BMW Performance Exhaust + AR DP. Total overkill, as a lot are content to just use the stock exhaust + downpipes. But I like overkill.

Nope, I always lease. It's very likely I will buy this car out, so I am doing more mods than I thought I would. I haven't done anything that can't be reversed in an hour or so.

Here is a pic of my car after my wash today.
I have to say, I just started using Optimum No Rinse ... the stuff is awesome. Granted I would not wash my car with it had it been very dirty, but for the rain spots and dust on there, it worked perfectly and only took me 30 minutes to do the whole car. ![]()

Finally put some new wheels on the 335i. Wanted something kinda OEM that looked like it could have come on the car, not super flashy. I am getting too old to need the added attention.
![]() Wheels are Alufelgen SF-71's Specs 19 x 8.5 fronts and 19 x 9.5 rears. New tires are Continental DW. ( I really like these thus far). Car is lowered on PSS10's Shitty cell phone pics for now: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

e92doc - nice pics. Coral red ...
I considered going with the superman combo on my car (blue+red), almost wish I did now.Jeller - definitely a nice choice with the wheels. They maintain the OEM look. Drop looks awesome. Time to wrap the window trim perhaps? Maybe some M3 sides?
