335i - 36mpg from a full tank shocker!

OBC was reading 37.5mpg but actual was 36mpg. Not a bad effort and probably never to be repeated but just shows you can get decent mileage if you try.

430miles when filled and had enough miles left that it would probably have crept over 500 !!! LOL!!

For info this was made up of 3 long trips with mix of A road and motorway and a couple of short trips. So not too many cold starts.

On one 150 mile trip I got 42mpg....do I win the saddest post award for a 335i driver

Excellent results.

This sort of economy is how I am justifying a 335i to myself - my driving is either short trips, where I don't care at all about economy, or long trips like yours, where I do.

So a car that does near 40mpg with the cruise set to 70mph and sub 20mpg around town whilst offering bags of performance is my kinda car

I only care about economy when I'm doing a long trip, because IMHO thats the only time it matters. I do the same with my 530i - does 19mpg on the way to work and back but 35-36mpg tank average on my trips to the Midlands.

What sort of speeds did that involve?

My overall average is >26mpg and I do a LOT of hooning about and the car is tuned a little.

Makes the M3 numbers quite unacceptable.

Was 50-60ish on the A-roads and cruise at 70 on motorway.

I had a few WOT plays too but nothing for any great distance.

Sounds like how I drive.

Would love to hear from somebody who has driven the 330i in a similar fashion.

I've had mid 30s on a longer run sitting at 75mph.

It does sound good but try telling your right foot to maintain that is not very easy.

No real point buying a 335i to nurse it about worrying about fuel economy.

That's pretty good too. How accurate is your OBC?? Mine was a good bit optimistic but I recalibrated it a few months ago and it is fairly close now. Good old hidden menus

I've got a jb3 sitting here waiting to go on.

My car has a couple of things to attend to under warranty before it goes on.

Did you stick it on yourself? It looks easy enough but the worry is for me I just get something a little wrong and do some damage.

You must have concrete feet then as my RS6 got more than that (albeit by a small amount)

Hmmm Rs6 to 335i seems common - I did the same. My rs6 average for ownership was around 15 mpg.... long term average on 335 - 27mpg. Saw about 30mpg over 1500 miles fully loaded with roofbox in the BMW on hols... great figs given perf imo..

I much prefer my 335i over the rs... only thing I miss is the throb of the v8....

I managed 400 on a tank, once.

Been taking it easy this week, averaged 29 over 350 miles.

Indeed, I've found the faster you go the more economical this motor is.

It will churn out low to mid 30's all day long in the 70-90mph bracket.

Fab.

Yep , 2nd that it really is amazing considering the horsepower and torque on tap, love it.

My rs6 had to go! The MPG is just a small factor in running one. MIne had 530bhp and it was quick but if kept another year it would have needed new drilled discs/pads (silly money) and the ever impending doom of the 'box failing was always on my mind. We would get a regular 21mpg from it with high 20's on a run.

It'll never have the road presence that an rs6 does but its a nicer car to drive and handles way better...my rs6 had trick bilstein coilovers and hotchkiss ARB's but still felt like a big car to throw down country lanes. Despite its flaws though I wish I still had it, it was mint!

I never had a doubt that this car is not capable of doing the suggested figures. Last week I did 230 miles in a half tank on mostly M way and few A roads with a constant 70-80 Mph.

What's more impressive is that the 3 long trips each had a 15mile hill climb up the mountains. Had it not been for that it would have been more.

I remember clocking that after 320miles I allegedly had 230miles left in the tank! That was on the trip of 150 miles I got it up to 42mpg on the journey computer.

So 600 miles the next target
