Options? Peeling Steering Wheel

As you can see from the picture, suffering from a little bit of peeling. Wondered what my options are without a complete replacement. I've seen a CF piece that would work, but don't really want to go that route as I don't have CF anywhere else in my car.

This is one aspect of the 2006+ cars I can't stand. Had the issue on the interior door handle of my 2006 325 sedan and now it's starting on my 2009 328 coupe. Can't the Germans make decent rubber/ plastic? I swear they can't. Happened on a friend's VW too!

Take it to the dealer if you have warranty.

sooner or later its bound to happen so dinoc it

here is mine. i dont have CF anywhere on my car either but it sets it off right IMO.

We have the exact same interior and that looks good...I think I could handle that actually. Is it fairly simple to install, would i need to remove that center piece?

I agree, just wrap it in dinoc. It looks really good on pearlescent trim with aluminum, that's the combo I have.

I also didn't want to at first because I have no CF anywhere else in or on my car and I don't plan on having any. But it works on the trim. BTW the shifter looks good with the CF, I have leftover, I might do that too..

This is a common problem with 2006 and 2007 models. I had to replace my whole trim piece with a new one. The good thing is that the new ones do not have the ruberized plastic so it will peel. I paid $140 for the part and installed it myself. There are DIY here. I will refinish my old part and sell it on eBay for about $40.

Thanks guys, guess I didn't do that good of a search before posting!

The DIY looks easy enough and I didn't know this would be covered under my warranty. The CF looks good too so at this point I feel comfy with my options!

steering wheel trim removal is kind of tricky.
so TAKE YOUR TIME.
BE PATIENT.
ITS A STUBBORN PIECE TO REMOVE.

but can be done and when you do you will be happy that you did this mod.

This has recently happened to both my 08 335 and 08 x5. Covered under warranty though.

My Trim is exactly like that too. I bought some Carbon Fiber Trim to wrap it.

How hard is it to wrap the trim? I would assume that would be much cheaper than buying the CF molded replacement which I found for around $100

if it is still under the original 4/50k warranty, it will be covered..

If the warranty is denied, you can also upgrade the piece to a real CF replacement piece. Here are a few pictures of what we have available.

i also got this on the drive side door handle, guess can't be replace or repair easily, will try to ask dealer if its covered under warranty or not.

First of all, brilliant post. I followed your same instructions to paint mine. I see some folks mention wrapping with 3M's carbon fiber Di-Noc vinyl wrap. I was unfamiliar with it so did some searches and have seen some amazing pics of folks doing their interiors with it. Wish I could have found some locally and I would have used that instead of painting. If anyone is interested, I found this DIY video of wrapping this exact part:

If there is anyone in the Cincinnati/Dayton, Ohio area that has experience with this I would love to hear from them.
