Part-Exing your car? Keep your floor mats!

Wish somebody had told me..........

Picked up my new (to me) 330i saloon today. Thrilled with it. But, it has no floor mats. Only noticed when getting in the car to drive away. Coiuld easily have kept the ones in old car, which I part-exchanged.

Any recommendations on where to get a set? I definitely need ones which stick down properly, like my old car's OEm velour ones did.

Another hidden expense! Thank you very much, BMW.

Strange, I picked up a year old AUC 320d m sport in Feb and it had a full set of floormats, nice black velour ones.

I'm sure there are plenty on Ebay, the dealers will probably charge around 100 for decent ones. Ouch.

I'd get on the blower and ask them to send you a pair as you'd fully expect some mats to be included. Did you get it locally???

Glad you're pleased with your purchase. Pics, pics, pics...

Ask them for some. There were some in the car when you test-drove it and there were some in yours when you part-exed it. Go back and demand some.

Yes, checked. Asked the salesman as I was getting in, and he said, "Sorry, no. If there aren't any, there aren't any. Unless you want to go over to parts and pay thousands of pounds for a set........."

I will mention it to them. Bit of a bugger.

On the other hand, I have noticed on some cars' spec sheets, under 'additional equipment', "Floor Matts (Velour)" . So I guess if they don't list them on the spec you can't guarantee they'll be there.

Frustrating, because I could have just kept my old ones.

How far away is the dealer??? Can you just nip back and grab them from your old motor - surely they'll still have your car as they're likely to be selling it - just say you left something in your car you need to grab back...

It's in Rochdale, Roger. If I go back there, it'd be to pick up a complimentary new set. Can't really drive all the way over there on the off-chance that they'll let me strip the interior of my old car!

So where's your new ride???

Fair enough. Shame though. Think I'd still be having a moan at them though (think you've already done that though).

Just put a call in to chase up my motor. Should be arriving today but without word from them I'm getting nervous - getting a call back shortly...

Did you buy the car unseen or did you look at it before buying? Were there mats there when viewing ? If no mats when you saw it and you agreed to buy the car it doesn't look like you have a strong case other than appealing to their generous nature which no doubt disappears as soon as you have taken delivery.

Best case may be to ask them to arrange a discount for you with their parts department and some goodwill from the dealership.

True. Can't actually recall whether there were floor mats when I test drove the car. Naturally that was not top of my list at the time.

I did think that they might offer a discount, but even so it'll be about a 60 mile round trip to get them.

Meanwhile, I've PM'd Anneka at Sytner to see how much they would do me a set for.

Why not say you want the ones out of your old motor? Say you forgot to take them out and that you had to buy them separately??

They may argue they valued your part ex in the knowledge it had mats, we all know mats add no value to a trade in but also we all know the rubbish car salesmen can come out with.

A nice new set for your new motor sounds the best option and arranging a decent discount. I'm sure the other dealer could post them to avoid the journey. When a dealer I dealt with was complaining about having to drive 50 miles to collect my car for warranty work they should have completed before delivery I had to remind them that it was the very same 50 miles I drove to come to buy the car from them so they should be more that grateful that I had done that.

They might argue that, but it would be fairly spurious. They had never been inside my car before I brought it in yesterday so for all they knew I had no mats at all.

I have emailed them and await their suggestions. If they want to give me my old mats back then great.

EDIT: Also, I'll be watching to see, when they sell my car on their AUC lists, if its spec included floor mats.

the arse is that they pull them out of your part-ex and then use that as a last minute bargaining tool if need be if you notice.

The 6 month old car we just bought clearly had mats from a much older car. The salesman swapped them for a nearly new set on another car (which I suspect is what had happened to the set initially in the car we were buying).

Yes, I'd have a moan at them too. Best thing is to go armed with a spec list of your car from the Parts Department (if you ask nicely they can print it off for you for your vehicle).

The spec list often states something like 'Velour floor mats' as well as the standard and optional extras your car has. Then you've got something to go on and prove that the car should come with them and get a new set from them - worked for me!

Did the AUC advert for your new car list mats ? If it didn't then it really doesn't matter what the new spec of the car was. As other posters have said I would be shocked if they couldn't either give you back your old ones or give you a decent used set from another stock car.

Yeah, I'll see what they say. Surely they won't want to sour things by sticking me on such a petty matter?

I got a PM back from Anneka, so I could get an OEM set at a discount through Sytner, but they're still very expensive. And then there's postage........

Definitely demand a set.

The Landy dealer chucked in a full set of new rubber mats (including loadspace mat) - 250 worth for no extra cost!

The BM came with a full set but replaced the fronts with rather nice Canon rubber mats to keep the footwells clean and dry. About 45 I think.
