Project "Sapphire" Has Begun - Updated 1-13-19

***1-13-19 Update - Custom Mophie Qi car charger install (Page 6, Post 119)***

UPDATE 1-12-19 - Back from the Dead: I am in upgrade mode for the first time 3.667 years (but who's counting?). Had a fender bender last weekend and will finally be putting on that M Sport rear bumper and some M3-style side skirts. I hope you guys will help me decide on a front lip splitter and side skirt extensions. I like them on some cars but don't wanna fall off the cliff here. Just jump to Page 6, Post #118 to see the new stuff...and help me out. Thanks!

UPDATE 6-20-15: I shut down the Website that was hosting my pictures, so...now you get those annoying logos. I am trying the reconstruct the photo part of the thread by directly downloading them to E90Post. May take a while, tho. Sorry.

***5-11-15 Update - Vibrant Resonator Added to PE (Page 6, Post 113)***

***4-26-15 Update - Project Performance Underway - Part Deux (Page 6, Post 112)***

***12-6-14 Update - iPad mini and Airplay Installed (Page 5, Post 91)***

***11-14-Update - Spare Tire Setup (Page 5, Post 90)***

(All photos taken with iPhone 4s and 5s)

Finally...bought her two months ago ('08 with only 5k miles, CPO'd) after planning the mods for my first E9X for over three years. Just didn't plan on taking a step sideways and getting a convertible. The deal was waaay too good to pass on. Now the question is "Why didn't I want one of these incredible cars all along???" I'll never be without a convertible again.

Here was the introductory thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=finally

Now...for the mods thus far:

Interior-
* M aluminum foot rest
* Stainless steel pedal set
* Black floor mats
* Windblocker (An absolute must!)

Exterior-
* Aero front lip (Just put it on myself 4 hours ago)

Coming soon-
* Eibach Prokit and Koni FSD dampers
* New rims (Ssshhh...it's a secret!)
* Tint (Just a little)
* Blacked-out window trim
* Rear spoiler (One of the three I've ordered.)
* MAJOR interior project (Yes, beige in nice, but...)

Coming later-
* Msport rear bumper with iS diffusor
* Quad exhaust

And...after that-
* Msport front bumper with Arkym lip (Ta da...The dream car. )

But first.........

Sapphire gets collagen...

BIG thanks to Evan at Tischer BMW. I ordered it pre-painted from him and I have to say the work is absolutely flawless. The paint match is dead-on and there is not the slightest blemish in the finish. For $544 painted and shipped across the country, I could not be happier. If you haven't worked with Evan then you haven't experienced the best there is! You da' man, Evan!

The BEFORE interior shot

Hopefully, the interior project will be finished by the end of next week. One of the parts had to come from Germany but was damaged in shipping.

In the meantime, here is a before shot...after the M footrest, stainless pedals, and black floor mats were installed.

Once again, the beige is nice but...enough is enough. So, I figured out a way to shrink it up a little. Hope you will like the result.

Updates 6-28

Notes on Project Sapphire Interior: What I did was custom cover the front door tops in matching Dakota black leatherette (just about perfect match) and changed out all of the rear top parts with black pieces and replaced the headrest mounts and roll over protection covers with black pieces. Just couldn't handle all of that beige. Debated over leaving the ambient lighting strips beige or making them black. Have both in the garage. May paint the black ones I have gloss black to match the piano dash if I do it but that might start getting a bit busy.

Thanks for being there! I don't know how you guys get to all of those Emails but you manage to make people feel like they're the only client. Great work! And...your painters do class A work. Sure you don't wanna pre-paint my Msport rear and ship it to me when the time comes?

Thanks. Hopefully, the drop and interior project will be done by the end of next week. The rims are backordered but I'm actually likin' the stockies more and more. We'll see how they look after the drop, tho. At least need rear spacers.

Thanks. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The interior will make it unique, at least for a 328i E93. (a little hint)

Cool! Hopefully you'll be able to by this time next week...unless the part from Germany gets delivered trashed again. (Lightning can't strike twice, can it? ).

This project is designed for the E93 (another little hint) but I'm sure could be accomplished in an E92 if you like it. You'll understand what I mean when you see it. It will end up looking like a BMW Individual interior, of sorts...still OEM but nothing I have seen on the forum before.

But...I was not motivated out of uniqueness but rather ALL OF THAT BEIGE. Like laying in a tub of flan (which is really interesting, BTW). Thank goodness beige and black look sooo good together.

Haha. Thanks. Too much reality TV, I guess. At least these cars don't start lookin' like Lisa Rinna after a few years.

Thanks! It wouldn't be my first choice but I think I can almost make it so with these changes. It was hard to turn down this deal...an '08 with only 5K, practically new inside and out, for only 33k @1.9% and CPO'd no less. It was driven so little it needed a new battery (which they paid for).

Thanks. Please don't tell the wife. I want to "surprise" her. What's the expression: "It's sometimes easier to apologize than to explain"? I'm sure someone on this forum understands.

Unfortunately, this interior mod ain't gonna work for you with your black interior. You'll see why shortly (I hope).

But...in my research before buying this car (almost bought a 2010 TiAg MSport coupe with black leatherette), I did get a quote from Top Stitch in LA for all new leather seats, headrests and door panels. It was surprisingly reasonable and apparently, from others on the forum, they do great work. Anthony Salazar there answered all of my Emails immediately and sounds like a great guy to work with.

So...your coral red is only about 10 days and $2.5k away.

Thanks. It's really growing on me.

I took it to my window tinter the other day, and as we walked out of his shop to the car, I said "I have to warn you, Chad, it's not silver with black interior." When he saw the car, he said "Well...you don't see many THAT color very often", kinda like how we tell our significant other how "interesting" their dress or shoes are.

I told him that I was going to get a license plate frame that says "My other car is silver with black interior".

Thanks. Me either. It's not going to be outrageous but rather use OEM parts to make it more two-toned. (Now...someone out there can guess exactly what I'm planning, I'm sure.)

Thanks! The more I'm in it, the more I wonder why I am about to change it. With the top down, the interior is fine as is. It's when it's a coupe that you get lost in the sea of beige (with just a black headliner) and the interior needs some sporting up.

Parts should be in this week for the interior project.

A little tease

I know how much you guys like teasers, so...

The interior project is underway. The (mystery) trim wont be here til late next week (if then) and there is still much to do, but...I've put in a number of the black pieces and you'll be able to see the direction it's taking. Basically, the interior will look similar to the two-toned oyster but with creme beige instead. The trim will really make it special, tho.

I think you're ditching a lot of plastic beige for black parts. wonder how far you'll go, since it sure isn't cheap. I bet you're putting black seat backs as well. Good on ya, nice to get this done, the beige is really overwhelming.
