I prefer the chrome with the LMB. They seem to give a good contrast with this colour. Live with the black for a while and see if you feel tempted to change back. Car looks great and I like the detailing on the leather

This really is stunning Rich. You must be proud of it. For what it's worth, I like the black grilles. Where did you get them from? I quite fancy some on mine when it arrives.

Just a case of keeping those swirls at bay for as long as possible. Best of luck. I've already started researching the best products.

Thank you both.

They're the genuine gloss grilles from BMW and can be ordered from any dealer. I actually got mine through Quarry Motors in Sheffield, they ordered them from Stratstone in Chesterfield going on the stickers on the box. I was going to fit them myself but Quarry Motors offered to do it for free when I called in to collect. The grilles are growing on me too

Regarding swirls. I'm using Meguiars Hyper Wash as a pre-wash foam with a bog standard Karcher and the plastic bottle that comes with it. It certainly seems to be doing something right and only adds 5 minutes to a wash.

hey dude, keep the black grills on because they look perfect with the gunmetal wheels. your car has a proper tuner look to it per the photos right above. the chrome seems to match better with the "regular" colored alloy wheels.

question: is the blue stitching and the m-style shifter knob included in the m-sport "plus" package? north america customers only have a choice of the m-sport package, and i'd love it if mine came with similar treatments.

i'm also going to put a set of michelins on (pilot sport plus a/s to be exact)

speaking of which, my e91 is still at the port of exit waiting for a boat, and then has a long ass way to go to ventura, california.

finding it hard to wait... going with the performance exhaust, too.

if i had the choice, though, i would get the diesel engine like yours.

The blue stitching seems to be exclusive to the Plus for now and the cars themselves come with black Dakota as standard and are only available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire or Le Mans Blue. Linky. The 'shifter' is standard M Sport fare as far as I'm aware.

I hope you're not waiting too long!

Rich, I used to use the Karcher bottle with AG foam or something like that. Then I discovered autobrite. They have a foam bottle (heavy duty but around 40 - although if you have a look on detailing world there's normally a discount knocking around) and a product they do called magifoam. It reduces your wash time to the time it takes you to fill the bottle and cover your car in the foam. Then leave for 20mins and wash off. You don't even need to touch the car even if it's reasonable well soiled. I went down that route with the S5 as it really looked after the paintwork as it'll preserve whatever wax is already on there. It's not cheap but when you're spending the money we spend on the cars in the first place, it's got to be worth the price of a curry or two to get the right stuff to look after it. Just my view.

Good plok re the shiny grill with the standard alloys. As much as I'm trying, BMW will not let me have the smoky alloys on my 330. They are reserved for the sport plus editions only. So I think I'll wait and see what I think when it arrives. I'll post a picture up (of course) and let you chaps have your view too.

yep, that clears it up but now i'm super pissed at the plethora of wagon options available to the eu market.

i guess i don't mind the wait so much because this will be the last time one (in north america) can order a bmw wagon. not to mention one with a naturally breathing inline 6 cyl; and i'm guessing that the manual trans will also soon be discontinued aside from possibly the m cars. bottom line is that i'll be driving this one for some time.

i just can't see myself buying an expensive audi with a volkswagen 2.0T under the hood. still don't know how they get away with that!

phil, that just sucks. not surprising though, it kinda follows their run-flat tire policy where owners can't opt for regular tires with no spare. you may wanna just sell the stock wheels and pick up some titanium or black alloys to put on there. i'm actually a big fan of the matched paint wheels these days (like porsche offers). if you're getting le mans blue paint like me and the op rich, it may look damn sweet!

as far as washing goes, you guys are committed! i just take mine to the local auto spa and let them slave over it, hahaa.

And in other news...

I've decided mine needs more power That has to be a record for me.

The car is so accomplished and can obviously handle it so I now feel my wallet should be lightened further.

Rich, there's an official BMW performance upgrade pack for the 2.0d engine. I drove a 1-series with and without and the difference was noticeable to say the least. The bonus being there's no messing around with your warranty and the insurance companies know it's from the manufacturer and therefore look at it more kindly I believe.

Let us know what you think if you go ahead. Goo luck.

Nah - looks like the cars of a bygone age where body coloured bumpers, mirrors, sills etc were a cost-added option.

Haha, fair enough. I think it works with the gloss round the windows and the grills. You would kind of have to know it didn't come like that as standard to be impressed with it i guess!

I think the black wing's add to the look off the car with black grills, Not sure if i would do it to my car

IMO E91 looks better than E90 in sport plus (thats why i got 1 lol)

E91 or E90, let the argument begin

i took a look at the specs of the two, and decided that there's no reason i wouldn't want the extra utility of the wagon.

the larger difference maker, to na customers though, is the price point being 4k more than the sedan. however, i built a comparable sedan and got charged extra for features that came standard on the wagon (sunroof, split folding rear seats, etc.), thus equaling out the prices.

the wagon body style is not for everyone though. i will admit that the sedan looks more of a sports car. if i did not need the utility i would go with the sedan.

there are other diesel performance chip makers that don't void the warranty and are claiming a 25% increase in power & torque.

but there may be no real point in spending the money on that. diesels are for good thermal efficiency, not performance. the burst of power at the high rev range that petrol engines offer just cannot be obtained...
