Replacing Speed Dial Lights

Has anyone done this? I can't help but think a bright, white LED bulb/bulbs would look a damn sight better than the dull orange/red.

Just FYI, I've read the dull orange/red is said to help see the gauges better at night which is why military vehicles also use the same color.
