Race Oil for everyday driving?

My brothers friend, a 16 year old, has a '95 integra and is going for the fast and the furious theme and asked me to help him arrange his mods. In exchange hes buying me a flex buffer. Theres no question he needs to change all his fluids(engine, tranny, diff, and radiator) but is race oil bad for street driving? If its okay, what is a good race oil and other fluids?

gasoline has octane ratings, oil doesnt. BTW congrats on your car. I will be getting a c63 as my next car in a year or 2. But be careful with the painting like i said in your thread. When you get rid of the car they can tell by the thickness where its been repainted and the first thing they assume is accident.

Sorry my bad, i read that wrong. For daily i would recommend using regular ones like mobil 1

If you are looking at something like red line synthetic then it is fine and in most cases better, just more expensive.

I have not experienced it myself, but 'they' say that introducing synthetic oil into a worn engine that is used to dino. oil can cause oil leaks.

If it was my car I would probably step up to Mobil One and leave it at that.

Also, I would use synthetic oil everywhere possible, it does everything better (less heat, less wear, lasts longer etc)

Royal Purple. Used it in my 06 Civic Si and it made a notable difference in engine smoothness.

I understand synthetic is the way to go. But im asking if something like motul race oil is acceptable.

MisterSkiMask, Im sure this car has been running synthetic for years but ive heard about that too.

I dont think this kid is too worried about something happening to the car because of the price he paid for it. This is his first car and hes just using it to learn how to drive stick. But i dont want to tell him to do something that will forsure destroy it.

You should only run race oil in the engine if you also run race air in the tires and race bulbs in the turn signals.

at his age and the age of the car, theres really no point in putting synthetic or anything fancy. Dino oil will be good enuf if the car didn't run synthetic, just change every 3 k- the oil is just as good and much cheaper. Plus looking at older motors, they ran fine with dino oil.

Fast and furious kids tend to rev the fuk out of the car anyways, and for a 15+ yr car, unless parts have been replaced - you might as well just put new fluids cause shits all worn already. Save that extra money and look at buying new parts instead

16 years old and he wants to be fast and furious. He will destroy it within a year.
Unless he is going to tear down the engine and rebuild, might as well go with the regular recommended synthetics mentioned,unless he has money to piss away.
Do the biggest favor that you can give him, get him a seat belt kit. Then maybe it will save his life rather than him being "uncool" and not wearing it.

I checked all the seatbelts and they are fine. And yeah he will rev the shit out of it and I might take him to the track if there's a cheap event( homestead doesn't have open track days that I know of). The engine will be tuned up over time and for the price he paid for the car, if stuff breaks down he won't care but I care because I don't like for this kid to blow his money away.

Now that most have goffed at your question, here's an honest answer. Unless he's going to track it HARD, race oil is a waste of money. Any full synthetic is more than enough. I use royal purple in all my engines, and red line in the trannys. Both probably saved my truck last year when I almost overheated it outside of Vegas pulling a hill with a trailer in 105 degree heat. The only risk switching from regular oil to synthetic on a very high mileage engine is that the synthetic has a little more detergent, and could clean up potentially already existing gasget leaks, and cause a leak you didn't see before. I switched over in a '90 735iL BMW with over 150K on the engine with no problems. After a couple thousand miles the old varnish you could see on the valves when looking thru the oil filler hole was actually cleaning off. Changed the filter ASAP, good to go.

We go to the track a lot for my business and I've never seen any of the guys with regular street cars running race oil. They will run race brake fluid, maybe transmission but not engine oil. They run whatever the car requires and change it after each event.

As far as brake fluid and what not I highly doubt he will need race stuff on the street no matter how fast and furious he thinks he is. Honestly he will probably run out of talent before boiling the brake fluid. If he does plan to track it and as he gets faster at the track then going with something like Motul is probably a good bet.

How is motul x-lite for street use. Im against using race oil in his car but he wants something that says race on it. Lol. And what about tranny fluid? A specific redline product? Brake fluid? And what is the best radiator coolant mixture? Also what are some practical mods that he can do to gain some power? We are gonna have the cats and muffler deleted and he's putting a cai in. I know there's not much to be gained but any suggestions?
