--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need some help. I recently had a little accident on one of my headlights, somebody back their car and push my xenon's soo hard that broke the brackets , obviously I need a new headlight. The dealer is asking about $1,100!!!!, my question is; can i get this used one from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...6QQitemZ330096 901922QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW and use everything I have on my old one (bulb, ballast, control module) with no problems? Thank you!!!!

Doesn't anyone use insurance anymore?! This the the umpteeth post where someone has significant damage and is asking DIY fix questions.

Hell, if you're never going to make an insurance claim, you might as well send ME your premiums!

Hit and run most likely. There is no decency in this so-called society of ours. But that is still why we have insurance, is it not?

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that it was a hit and run. The insurance will pay $1,100 for the light so I am trying to save or perhaps make money. :-)

well I used that one as an example because it was the first one I found on ebay, let's say that the headlight on sale is not scratch and in good condition but no bulb, ballast, control module, can I use the same parts from my old one with no problems? thanks....

Not that you do or should care what any of us think, but I would just let the insurance coverage fix it and know that it has been done to proper specs using authorized BMW parts.

Well I do care, that's why I am asking . But If this something that will not be so hard to do I could really save some money and make some too. About $700. I am trying to save some $$$ I just change all tires with PS2's (no regrets)......

Ahh...then you should have said so.

You want to make insurance pay full price, but actually get a discounted one. Unfortuntely....these lights are not cheap new from dealer. And, used ones are kind of difficult to come by. So, if you want things done relatively soon...you are stuck with going with dealer. If you can wait, usually you can find a used one that pops up for sale for cheaper than that price. But then, you run the risk of it working properly, and not being scammed on line by shady sellers.

Edit: And to answer your original question. YES! You can use all of the components (bulbs and ballasts) of your current headlight and put them on a new one to make it work. The only caveat...the new housing needs to be complete and not have any broken pieces.

You are the man, that's all I want to know . Actually on my way home I though about just seal the holes where the brackets broke and keep using the original ones, they still work perfectly and there is no scratches to it anymore. I will be saving some good money, around $1,100!!!!!
